No go on Flo

Francois Louw is set to miss the Springboks’ End of Year Tour due to a hamstring injury, which rules the flanker out until early 2017.

Louw left the field early in the Boks’ loss to the All Blacks at Kings Park. No news came from the Springbok camp but it has now been confirmed that the flanker injured a hamstring and that he will play no part in the Boks’ tour of Europe.

Louw would have been an ideal starter in conditions known to him, but it does now open the door to play either Jaco Kriel in an extended run, or to try something new.

This is the second big casualty before the tour has even started, with Julian Redelinghuys also set to miss the tour after his neck injury over the weekend. The good news is that Julian has started walking already and is likely to be discharged from hospital tomorrow.

  • I would expect Jaco Kriel to play the tests but will be interesting to see who they use for the Baabaas game and on the test bench.

  • @Grasshopper (Comment 5) : Much as I agree on the class of Brüssow, I simply don’t see him being in the selection frame!

In that case rather blood a new specialist like Roelof Smit, Paul Schoeman, Chris Cloete or a fit again Boom Prinsloo.

Canterbury is the new jersey sponsor for the Sharks (ex-BLK) and the Cheetahs (ex-Puma)

  • Jaco Kriel must get an extended run on the EOYT.

I see the “Rapport news” are that Bok defence coach Chean Roux is out with Lions’ JP Ferreira and the Bulls’ Pine Pienaar havingbeen identified as possible successors.

And that Swys de Bruin (Lions) and Franco Smith (Cheetahs) are apparently in SA Rugby’s sights as backline coach/advisors

  • @Baylion (Comment 9) : could be a good thing if they use Says or Smith as advisors but they also need to get some help as the forwards are not giving the backs enough ball to beat top sides no matter how good they get!!!

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 7) : while he will probably be overlooked, “blooding newbies” is not going to do SA rugby any good for eoyt. We’re leaking caps by the truckload.

  • @Baylion (Comment 13) : ok and can’t blame SA rubgy for ending his contract but I was actually referring to where did you see that Canterbury will be sponsoring the Sharks and not BLK?

  • @Baylion (Comment 13) : So who appointed this monkey, this was his first appointment as a defence coach and it just happened to be the Boks, was it SARU or was it Coetzee.
Can you imagine the AB’s allowing this and we all sit in amazement that we had 9 trys scored against us.
Defence coach now thinking about giving it to Pine the fat guy from Modern Family,

  • I was just thinking that this end of year tour is a missed opportunity for the SA A side to play again. The side, coached again by Ackermann could have played the Barbarians and then played a midweek game before the England, Italy and Wales tests. That would have been 4 games to gauge how the next best really are.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 17) : The previous BLK license holder went under about 2 years ago and the license went to one of their manufacturers, who also manufactures for Puma. Since then there seemed to be some issues culminating in the maroon “away” jersey that was used only once by the Sharks and where the numbers fell off

  • @SheldonK (Comment 20) : The Canterburty license is with Brand ID, they’re also the agents for Dunlop, Slazenger, Mizuno and a number of other companies

  • @Baylion (Comment 19) : OK thanx for the good news. Must say I’m not mad about the fit of especially this year’s super rugby jerseys! Got home and away jerseys of 2014/5 and they fit OK. Ordered a 2016 and the thing just does not fit lekker as it’s almost shaped like a female top with a very tight tapered middle that does not fit my unique physique!!! So may I please place an order with you for a very big 2017 5XL jersey.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 20) : @Baylion (Comment 21) : must say I personally prefer Canterbury as I still have an old very worn out Super 14 jersey with the old iron on stickers and that thing just fits way better than these modern sublimated jerseys!
