  • I am not that disappointed…they are actually doing ok, Page is way too slow….and we have been unlucky with that last try of ENG before halftime…very lucky for them.
Set piece is ok although we arent competing against theirs. We seem a bit surprised when we get the ball. Damien inho is having a good game going fwd and getting over the advantage…so lets see pity we are 20-9 down at halftime which isnt a true reflection of the game. Heres to hoping we get some rub of the green as well.

We have to learn to spend more time and money on coaching and less time hoping on some brilliant players are going to save us. I said it before the players aren’t light years apart it comes down to the man or men conditioning them.

  • An awesome coach can turn even mediocre players into a force. Ask Ackermann he and Ole John Mitchell took b string players and turned them into something real. So did Jones with Japan. That where you should be spending the money. In my opinion.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 65) : No one is shifting blame but we have had many guys besides lambie and we sucked. Suddenly Goose wil do better? Let’s look for the common denominators here. Yes the coach is the where the buck stops. You would love to see goose on we get it but what would you say after he gets showed up? I was really hard on Elton I admit but I see that the difference is not in one brilliant player this whole unit is underperforming long before the backline is reached. Or we go go on being provincialists and ignore the elephant.

  • The biggest difference between Eng and SA was the defense. Eng were quickly back up on their feet and into line and smashing us in the tackle, Boks were huffing and puffing from about the 15th min. Both attacks were very average so i dont subscribe to this Eddie Jones is an attack genius idea. The number of basic errors the Boks are making is absolutely alarming, schoolboy coaches wouldnt accept that from u14s. I cant see a quick road back from where we currently are.

I personally don’t think Pat is mentally fit to be playing at this level and sadly wonder if he ever will be again.I think Alistar Hargreaves comments on his retirement cut to the bone and I hope that whoever advised him to retire has assessed Pat ‘s situation as well.He looked physically distressed just before he was substituted. He took a huge knock and the guy who left the field was not the guy who so beautifully slotted that drop.

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 182) : Someone said it on the weekend to me- Lambie is too timid in the 10 role currently (and perhaps its a result of all the injuries). Johan Goosen takes the ball to the line at pace and isnt afraid of getting hit, same with Rob DuPreez who was very good for the Barbarians in their games. Same goes for a Handre Pllard and even Neil Marais.

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 182) :

Yeah look, I won’t say he had an easy run with the Boks, you have to remember that a majority of those caps was at fullback.

But in his current state, whatever it is that is wrong, need to be sorted out. I reckon his form in Super Rugby next year will give us all the answers, and from there it will be seen if he truly can take the Bok 10 jersey.

Has he been better than Elton so far? I would love to see Elton play again, but I think the coaches will look to Goosen at 10 against Italy. And I will support that, to be honest. I would even support Jantjies getting a run.

  • @The hound (Comment 183) :

Not many of the current 30odd players on tour is on form.

And who do you blame for that? You can’t blame the provinces, not all 5 provinces can be the cause for it? Actually, its more than 5 with the number of foreign players.

So does it come down to the coach and his support staff? Or is it merely that the players are playing too much rugby?

The thing is, once you call up Rob, he is playing under AC again, so where does that leave the player? Deans obviously knows how to get the best out of him, while Fleck doesn’t? The question is, does AC?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 186) : I think Coetzee need to play his best team against Italy and hopefully build up a head of steam for Wales. We need to really thrash the Italians ,and its no good doing it with the second string who might just be on the losing side.

Agree with you. But do you think he knows his best team?

If it is the same team that took on Engalnd, then I don’t know.

Italy have gone backwards badly, they don’t stand a chance this weekend, even against a bad Springbok side, but that doesn’t exactly help our cause..

Does his best team include Paige and Lambie? and Strauss?

I reckon the team this week is going to come out of a random number generator..

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 192) : Who ever is going to play against Wales needs to play against Italy. You can’t throw guys straight into a test like he did with Combrink and Lambie and expect them to be test match sharp.
Watching the Argie team who nearly took out Wales was a lesson, those guys have played every game the whole years full super rugby program traveling twice as much as anyone else, the whole rugby championship and they so beat Wales their home.
So how can we claim player fatigue with centimes as many players. They are everything we aren’t ,they are a united team, we are fifteen individuals most of whom are playing out of position.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 191) : The team against Eng was pretty close but needs a bit of tinkering- wholsesale changes would be silly.
    So start with:
    1. Beast 2. Marx 3. Koch 4. Etzebeth 5. PSDT 6. DuPreez 7. Alberts 8. Whiteley 9. De Klerk 10. Goosen 11. Habana 12. Van Rensburg 13. Venter 14. Combrinck 15. Le Roux. Bench: TBC

Not wholesale but we make 7 changes, thats half the team.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 195) : Ethebeth won’t play he walked off looking like a Mike Tyson victim.
He really got sorted,I have been waiting for that since he sucker punched Bismark in the neck ,just after Bismark returned from neck surgery and the entire Western Province rose in awe to hail their new hero.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 196) : Habana in as our wings looked so clueless on Saturday giving Willie zero help. In truth AC could leave Strauss at 2 and De Allende at 12 to minimise the changes and still get a better composition.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 198) : Goosen or Combrink should start at 15,Willie is fucken clueless, and DeAllende should go and play touch rugby, he be great there,I don’t think in the history of rugby there has ever been a centre who passed less, he’s actually worse than de Jong.

If the wings are so useless at the moment, does it warrant giving Ulengo a run?

  • Should we not consider Willie on the wing?

And could we see Lambie returning to the fullback jersey?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 203) : I think you need to make the changes against Italy that you are going to use against Wales. No good putting in a guy who has a belter against Italy but gets decimated against Wales.

Agreed, that is why I ask the question..

Bringing in Habana against Italy so he can score 2 tries only to be useless against Wales? Is it worth it?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 202) : The wings on Saturday were f*cking terrible and lazy. Not once did they drop back and run support lines for Willie, their covering of Englands pretty average kicks looked lazy and uninterested. To be honest id drop both of them. I must admit i do think a heavier pack is the way we need to go currently…until such time as our light and nimble guys can actually handle contact.
