I hate to say “I told you so”, but I’m afraid the way that the Sharks shot themselves in the foot against the Blue Bulls at Loftus yesterday bore all the hallmarks of a team that simply isn’t capable of going into a big match as favourites and delivering a performance worthy of that tag. Credit must got to the home side, though, for delivering a rousing display in the second stanza to give their long-suffering fans something to crow about at last. [...]

Age group coaches Swys de Bruin and Sean Everitt have named their respective Sharks Under 21 and Under 19 sides to take on their Blue Bull counterparts at Loftus in Pretoria on Saturday leading in to the Absa Currie Cup clash between the senior sides.
Both teams suffered fairly narrow losses in the first round in Durban and will be looking to reverse those results. The Under 19s come off the back of a bye last weekend while the Under 21s registered their second defeat over Boland, their sixth in seven matches – incidentally the Bulls are the only team to have beaten them. What to do, what to do?
When John Plumtree was forced to send Pat Lambie in at flyhalf against the Lions, you got the feeling that it was pretty much a gamble that the coach was forced to make, after Steve Meyer ruled himself out for the season. A short-term fix, but not to worry, because replacements were on their way… [...]
