In a move that should surprise most Stormers supporters, Allister Coetzee has selected Bryan Habana at outside centre for their final pre-season match against the Kings in PE this Saturday. [...]

Habana in surprise 13 switch
Aplon is ok after prang
,Stormers wing Gio Aplon can be forgiven if he thought he’d arrived at practice early yesterday – although it turned out that the first bag he tackled was actually his car’s airbag. [...]

Habana: ZAR > Yen
In a somewhat surprising move Western Province have announced the extension of Bryan Habana’s contract, and its not a one year extension, its a THREE year one. After the rumour mill started doing the rounds that he was in talks with Japanese Clubs, Habana took to twitter to rubbish the rumours saying “Amazing how some journalists can write the biggest load of nonsense to create sensationalism & then never apologise or correct their wrongs!” and following that with “Heard yesterday that I am in talks with some Japanese clubs??!?? That’s the 1st I’ve heard of it!!”.

Is the Yen calling more Boks?
As the Springboks settle in back home, the rumours have started to surface about the future of certain individuals. Two Western Province players have been the centre of a lot of attention, and it’s not been from Europe. [...]
A sad farewell
The Tri Nations has come to an end for the 2011 year, and it is with a sad feeling that we say good bye to the premier tournament in the Southern Hemisphere as it will be extended to a four team competition next year to include Argentina. [...]
Nope, the sky isn’t falling
I’ll probably get shot down by a good number for this post, but I honestly didn’t think things went that badly on Saturday morning.
Let us take a cold, objective, un-emotional look at how the game unfolded.
Stormers still Grant-less
Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has announced his team to take on the Crusaders on Saturday and will again be without Peter Grant at flyhalf. Bryan Habana has also been ruled out with injury and we will see Johann Sadie taking his place in the starting line up ahead of Danie Poolman. [...]
Stormers team bolstered by Springboks

PdV – I will have to be honest with the players
South Africa’s most experienced Springboks are currently struggling with their form. The Rugby World Cup is still a long way off, but Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers, believes he is going to make some hard choices if the situation does not improve soon. [...]
Just the Numbers
Just before the halfway stage of the competition, lets have a look at the player numbers. [...]
It’s about the team, not the record!
I note, with some distaste, some quotes attributed to Bok coach Peter de Villiers in an article on Sport24 this morning. The Bok mentor appears to openly acknowledge that Bryan Habana’s poor form is all as a result of of the fact that he is a single try away from holding the record for the most tries for the Springboks all on his own. [...]
A fresh approach is needed
Listening to the Bok coaching team talking about how they intend to abandon the kick-chase game-plan in favour of a more ball-in-hand approach reminds me a little of someone wanting to escape a bad relationship. It’s always a case of “yes – I’m definitely leaving! This can’t go on another day!” and yet somehow, nothing ever seems to change; a reason is always found to stay. [...]
Boks break Welsh hearts – again!
Peter de Vililers and his much-maligned Springbok team showed true grit and unshakable resolve on defence in the second half to come from behind and beat a game Welsh team by 29 points to 25 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff earlier today. With their seond win in a row, the Boks remain on course to capture a Grand Slam for the first time in over 50 years. [...]
