I note with great pleasure that Craig Burden will make his 50th Currie Cup appearance for the Sharks on Saturday. While it seems as though poor old “Bruce” has been biding his time on the fringes for years now, it really is very pleasing to see him reach such an important milestone for the team he loves – and has shown great loyalty to despite sometimes extreme provocation! A very young side indeed!
Sharks (just) prevail in Nelspruit arm wrestle
The Sharks appeared lethargic and underdone as they battled to a somewhat fortuitous 23-22 victory over the Pumas at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Friday night. With the hosts holding a 6-point advantage deep into the final quarter, it was only a late try by rookie prop Dale Chadwick that managed to spare the Sharks’ blushes on the night. [...]

Tonight there is a massive game in Durban as National Club Champions Jonsson College Rovers take on rivals Acer Durban Collegians in a KZN Fidelity Security Premier Division match, where Rovers will look to extend an amazing streak of victories. [...]
Skeate to bolster Sharks XV
As one of a number of anticipated changes to the Sharks lineup for Saturday’s clash against the Brumbies unfold, Sharksworld can confirm that Ross Skeate will be running out for the Sharks XV in the Vodacom Cup semi final, with his spot in the Sharks run-on team going to Alistair Hargreaves. [...]
Sharks XV will need to dig deep
You have to feel for the Sharks XV coaching staff, with a combination of player ineligibility and injuries to members of the Sharks squad complicating their selection process ahead of the most important game of the season – the Vodacom Cup semi-final against the Pampas XV in Potchefstroom on Friday afternoon. [...]
Vodacom Cup eligibility rules to hamstring Sharks XV
Sharks XV coach Sean Everitt appears to have been dealt a hammer blow as his side prepares for their Vodacom Cup semi-final against the Pampas XV in Potchefstroom this coming weekend. A new and hastily-communicated eligibility rule from SA Rugby looks set to rule out nearly half of his starting pack of forwards… [...]
Count the cards
Looking at the current statistics for discipline over the past few weeks one gets the feeling that just maybe the Sharks have either been drilled into not giving away match losing cards or they have just been holding back slightly not to force them into a position where they might be carded. For most of the Super Rugby tournament the Sharks have seemed to only really click and go full out in the last 20 minutes of their games and Saturday’s game against the Hurricanes is a prime example. [...]
Deysel to return as Botes ruled out
Jacques Botes will not be included in the Sharks team to face the Stormers this weekend, having sustained an injury against the Hurricanes on Saturday. As a result, coach John Plumtree will be forced to yield to temptation and select Jean Deysel a little earlier than he was intending to. [...]
A lot more rotation than expected…
Although I’m pretty pleased with the make-up of the Sharks team to face the Hurricanes on Saturday, I must say, I’m a little surprised that John Plumtree has opted to make quite so many rotational changes this week. While I applaud most of the selection, in the interests of keeping the team fresh, it certainly does seem a little out of character for the coach to make quite so many changes all at once. [...]
Could Div get his wish?
They say it’s an ill wind that blows nobody any luck and the news out today that Bismarck du Plessis is struggling with a sore shoulder might just see a tricky loose end tied up this weekend. [...]
Burden starts against Shark-laden Pumas
Craig Burden will take over in the number 2 jersey from Kyle Cooper as Sean Everitt names his Sharks XV side to play the Pumas at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Friday night. The home sides features a fair few players who have spent time on the fringes of the Sharks squad. [...]

Sean Everitt’s Sharks XV will head down to Nelspruit on Friday evening knowing that a bonus-point victory is required in order to give them the best chance of a home quarter-final. [...]
Curtain-raiser team announced
Sean Everitt has announced his Sharks XV team to take on the Leopards in the curtain raiser on Saturday afternoon. He has made a few slight changes to the team, most significantly though is the announcement of Jean Deysel as captain. [...]
Sharks XV name strong line up
With the Sharks choosing to come home before flying to London to face the Crusaders, and then opting to only take a 22 man squad to the UK, the Sharks XV coach Sean Everitt has a few extra players to select his team from for the game against the Griffons on Saturday. [...]
