They say the sign of a special team is the ability to pick up good results from bad games and while the Sharks class of 2012 (in the Currie Cup, at least) hasn’t always been able to do that, Saturday was a good example. Beating decent sides away from Kings Park has been a struggle so far, with the side unable to record any away victories since the first-round defeat of Western Province at Newlands. In that light, a bonus-point win in Bloemfontein must surely rank as a highlight, even if the team didn’t consistently play superb rugby throughout the game. [...]

In a result that catapulted them back to the top of the Currie Cup log, the Sharks scored a 37-30, bonus-point win over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last night. The result sews up a home semi-final for the men from Durban (for the 6th year in succession) and ensures that even a few points against Griquas in Durban on Friday night will see them win the right to host the final, should they progress that far.
