It’s a real pity that the majority of Sharks fans won’t get to see much Vodacom Cup rugby this season, because my feeling is that we’re missing the emergence of a future superstar. [...]

Mr BMT sneaks another win for Sharks XV
Unfancied youngsters topping the charts
I find it quite interesting that a pair of young flyhalves, neither of whom could get a look in at any sort of national age-group level, have emerged as top points scorers in the Under 19 and Under 21 competitions this year, after the bulk of matches have been played. [...]
Super Rugby Fantasy League: We have a winner!
Another instalment of our JustRugby.net Super Rugby Fantasy League has come to an end and we are ready to announce our winners! [...]
Principle of reserve energy
No one can deny that the Sharks is a dangerous side, the problem has always been their consistency. What will the Sharks do to ensure another lapse in concentration won’t hamper them again this week? Well, thank God John Plumtree has got a degree in psychology at the University of Harra, or that’s what he said. [...]
Stormers secure domestic crown
In downing the Cheetahs in sodden Bloemfontein this weekend, the Stormers managed to secure the Super Rugby South African conference title for the second year running. [...]
The only way is UP!
I have some encouraging news for Sharks fans; the team is currently as low on the Super Rugby log as they’re going to get! [...]
Highlanders hand Sharks a glimmer of hope
Just a while ago the Highlanders did just enough to place destiny back into the hands of the Sharks. While it would have been better had they clawed their way through the persistent Reds defense in the dying moments of the match, keeping the Reds away from that all important bonus point made 10 more log points enough [...]
Canes, Reds knock Sharks back
John Plumtree’s Sharks were forced to watch in horror as first the Hurricanes and then the Reds recorded victories this past weekend that further dented their already tenuous chances of Super Rugby knock-out qualification. [...]
Sharks scrape through with a D
While it’s probably fair to say that the Sharks didn’t do much to appease their long-suffering fans this weekend, Saturday’s battling win against the Highlanders has at least bought them a little breathing space and while the side can hardly be said to have passed their latest test with flying colours, we probably do need to acknowledge the progress that has been made. [...]
Sharks Locker Room Pep Talk
I’m not even going to apologise for it. I’m just going to come out and shamelessly say it. I still believe the Sharks can make the playoffs and even win this competition. [...]
Who will be the main Chief at Kings Park?
As we look ahead to the game on Saturday against the Chiefs, at our beloved Kings Park, there are a few positives to take back from the Blues game. [...]
Sharks an easy target for on-form kickers
This is hardly rocket science, I guess, but it seems to be a very strong pattern that’s emerging; the Sharks give away far too many penalties in games and have done so for quite some time. It seems that all you need to do in order to beat the Durbanites these days is pick a 90% goal kicker and let the Sharks do the rest. [...]
Key weeks ahead for Sharks
The Sharks take on the Stormers in Cape Town this Saturday evening, coming off a loss to the Bulls in the opening round of the Super Rugby competition, and needing to get back to winning ways before they are too far behind in terms of log points. But happens if they lose this weekend? [...]
Fantasy League – Round 1 update
After an up and down first round of Super Rugby action we have our first leaders in the Fantasy League competition over on www.justrugby.net, as well as on our Superbru log. And for those that are still alive in the Last Man Standing competition, well done! [...]
More cheap tries for the VC
Monday night saw Tuks take on UJ in a slightly improved Varsity Cup. Or was it? This year’s VC sees a number of changes in the format of the game. Most notably is the new points system where you still get the 5 for a try but an additional 3 for a converted try. A penalty and a drop goal will only get you 2 points. The emphasis here is to see more running rugby and less of the “take the 3 on offer” style of rugby. It was certainly the case with the Tuks vs UJ game where the ball was run from all corners of the field. However, the new points system has taken its toll on the game as we know it. Two notable observations from the game were worth sharing. [...]
