With the Sharks forced to make 208 tackles against the Blue Bulls last week, while their hosts had to pull of just over a third as many, Sharks coach John Plumtree is right to be worried about the amount of defending his side is doing. [...]

CC Game 29 – Ford Pumas (20) vs (34) MTN Lions F/T
The Pumas host the Lions in a top plays bottom game to kick off round two of the pool stages of the 2011 Currie Cup. It’s David vs Goliath battle in David’s home town as the Lions travel to Witbank in an attempt to stay out of reach of second and third placed teams on the log. [...]
Wake me up when September ends
We have reached the half way stage of the Currie Cup, and we can now safely look back as all teams have now faced each other and it cannot be said that the Stormers still have to tour. [...]
Fantasy Friday
So it’s Friday, which means two things. Firstly, the weekend has finally arrived, which means loads of rugby and maybe some form of cold beverage consumption. Secondly, it means that everybody will be making their fantasy league changes and SuperBru picks and maybe even risk a trade or two. Here is the breakdown of what is going on: [...]
More juniors for WP
Allister Coetzee has named another strong side to face the Pumas on Friday, he has resisted resting players considering the few that have been lost to injuries already. Changes to the starting team see a fairly light loose trio start in the form of Nick Koster, Nizaam Carr and Nick Fenton-Wells (who was EVERYWHERE against the Lions), we also see the Blitzbokke speedster Steven Hunt get a start on the wing. While Tiaan Liebenberg is given a start, and the captaincy, thanks to an injury to Deon Fourie.

CC Game 24 – Cheetahs vs Pumas
The Free State Cheetahs and the Pumas finish of the Currie Cup action this afternoon as a curtain raiser for the Tri Nations clash in Port Elizabeth. It won’t be as much a spectacle as the Province vs Lions game last night, but we should, if everything goes according to plan, see a few tries being scored. [...]
CC Game 17 – Pumas (12) vs Blue Bulls (16) F/T
The first game of the weekend, an early start indeed this Friday afternoon, sees the Bulls given the ideal opportunity to get their campaign back on track. Should they underestimate the Pumas though, they will go down for the fourth time this season, and another loss will root them to the bottom of the log with quite a deficit to make up. [...]
Currie Cup Round 5: Preview and Predictions
ABSA Currie Cup round 5 is upon us, and with a multitude of close encounters expected for this weekend, let’s see how the teams line up, and where do we think the teams will pull through. Last weekend was an absolute abortion as not one team that I thought would win, actually pitched up on the day, so you can all imagine the bloodbath of a SuperBru weekend I had!
Bulls pick Vermaak
ABSA Currie Cup player of the month for July, former Lions scrumhalf Jano Vermaak, has been rushed straight into the Blue Bulls lineup for this weekend’s game against the Pumas. Having stuttered to only a single win in their opening four games, Pine Pienaar’s men are already rooted to the foot of the table and fighting for their lives in the domestic competition. [...]
CC Game 9 – Pumas (33) vs Griquas (40) F/T
The weekend of rugby action kicks off a bit later with a minnow battle of epic proportions. Both teams will have targeted this match in the preseason as a must win, and as it stands, both teams can quite easily walk away with the spoils. [...]
Sharks (just) prevail in Nelspruit arm wrestle
The Sharks appeared lethargic and underdone as they battled to a somewhat fortuitous 23-22 victory over the Pumas at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Friday night. With the hosts holding a 6-point advantage deep into the final quarter, it was only a late try by rookie prop Dale Chadwick that managed to spare the Sharks’ blushes on the night. [...]
CC Game 5 – Pumas(22) vs Sharks (23) F/T
The Sharks take on the Pumas in Nelspruit tonight, in a match that will be tighter than most people expect. The Pumas are set on making their mark in this year’s Currie Cup, showing great determination in pushing the Lions all the way last weekend. [...]
Key Puma laid low by ‘flu
Pumas flyhalf Ricardo Croy looks to have been ruled out of Friday’s second-round Currie Cup clash against the Sharks, at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. The versatile pivot, who was one of the standout players in his side’s good opening performance against the Lions, is suffering from a bout of the ‘flu. [...]
Physicality and defence will be the key
The Sharks head down to Nelspruit to take on the Pumas in my backyard, first of all I am obviously very excited to see the Sharks play live since I never had the opportunity apart from the Sharks XV game earlier this year. Looking back at the Sharks XV game earlier this year I get a little bit of a worried feeling in my gut since most of our current front row played that day against the Pumas. At the end of the night the Sharks XV held on to the death to win, but I am sure some of those guys will remember just how strong the Puma forward pack was. [...]
Makin’ marakkas at Mbombela!
Well well, it seems that we finally have confirmation as to where the Currie Cup clash between the Sharks and the Pumas will take place this coming weekend. [...]
