Let’s assume, for just a second, that we all (well, most of us) get our wish and the Sharks enter the 2014 Super Rugby season with a new coaching team in charge of the side. My view is that while moves to establish that coaching team do need to start as quickly as possible, it’s probably better if it’s not done as a rush job, rather that the appropriate time is spent ensuring that the right people, with the right credentials, are involved. Everitt due a Currie Cup shot
Experience boost for Sharks XV
Sean Everitt’s Sharks XV side has been boosted by the inclusion of two experienced campaigners, ahead of the weekend’s final round-robin clash with the Pampas XV. Key among the selections is the inclusion of Bok loose forward Willem Alberts at eighthman. [...]
Spare a thought for Everitt
Maks van Dyk, the Baby Bok tighthead, must have cut a lonely figure at Sharks XV practice yesterday as he tried to figure out how the hell he was going to move the scrum machine back all on his own… [...]
Boland challenge for unbeaten Sharks XV
Sean Everitt has managed to keep changes to a minimum, as his Sharks XV side aims to win their fifth straight match of the season, against Boland this weekend. [...]
Six Sharks in Baby Bok tour group
SA Under 20 coach Dawie Theron has named 34 players to tour Argentina early next month as the final preparation ahead of this years IRB Junior World Championship. The squad will play two tests against the Argentine under 20 side, as well as a midweek fixture, during their tour which kicks off on 10 April. [...]
Joubert takes Sharks XV reigns
Veteran centre Marius Joubert will lead the Sharks XV in their third-round Vodacom Cup fixture against Free State on Saturday afternoon at Kings Park. Jandre Marais, who led the side to two good victories in their opening matches, has been called up to the Super Rugby squad this week, along with fullback Riaan Viljoen.
[...]
Everitt maintains continuity
Sharks XV coach Sean Everitt has named a mostly unchanged side for his team’s second-round Vodacom Cup clash in Cape Town this weekend. Whilst his charges performed superbly in delivering a proper beating to Border last week, the coach is keen not to let anyone get ahead of themselves, as far tougher opposition await in the form of reining champions Western Province. [...]
Sharks XV run riot in opener
Sean Everitt’s Sharks XV got their Vodacom Cup campaign off to a great start at Kings Park this afternoon, recording a 72-6 win over an outclassed Border Bulldogs team. [...]
Sharks XV side taking shape
The shadow Sharks XV team recorded a resounding 68-7 win over the Griffons in a pre-Vodacom Cup warm-up match this weekend, with the combinations selected showing some insight into coach Sean Everitt’s thinking ahead of the season opener in a fortnight’s time. [...]
Kleinhans blow ahead of semi
Sharks under 21 coach Sean Everitt has named his side to take on Western Province in Saturday’s semi-final, a game that will serve as the curtain-raiser to the big Currie Cup clash between the Sharks and the Blue Bulls at Kings Park. Experienced loose forward Francois Kleinhans, though, will sit the match out as the result of an injury picked up against the Leopards last week. [...]
Under 21s with work to do
It wasn’t all good news at Loftus Versveld on Friday afternoon, with the second-placed Sharks under 21 side suffering an embarrassing 17-61 defeat to the Blue Bulls side that tops the competition log. [...]
Bastew to show his wares
Sharks under 21 coach Sean Everitt has been dealt something of a bitter blow ahead of his side’s clash with the Blue Bulls at Loftus tomorrow afternoon; both his leading points scorer, flyhalf Fred Zeilinga and understudy Gavin Hauptfleisch have been ruled out of action this week due to injury. [...]
Cloete, Majola fit again
In a pretty bizarre case of the wheel turning, Sean Everitt has been able to include four specialist open-side flanks in his Sharks under 21 squad to face Western Province this weekend – whereas just a few weeks back he had none whatsoever and was forced to send an SOS to out-of-favour Bulls player Murray Bondesio. [...]
Under 21s fail to capitalise
In what turned out to be an unmitigated dies horribilis at Coca Cola Park for the Sharks, Sean Everitt’s under 21 side suffered an agonising 31-32 loss against the Lions, to join both the under 19 and Currie Cup side in defeat. [...]
Steph’s back!
Pieter-Steph du Toit will make his long-awaited return to rugby this weekend, after an ankle injury sustained during the Super Rugby knock-out series has kept him on the sidelines for a few months. [...]
