It’s that time of the year when all sorts of awards and prizes get handed to players who have performed well in the Super Rugby tournament. Here at Sharksworld, we tend to do things a little differently, rewarding those players that performed well, performed poorly as well as rewarding them for those idiotic moments. [...]

SW Awards – 5 Lock
Pride and passion aplenty
It was billed as the swansong of a golden Bulls generation. This would be the last time the light blue army would get to see the likes of Bakkies Botha, Victor Matfield, Danie Rossouw and Fourie du Preez on their beloved home ground. On top of that this match also marked the century of Bulls caps for the hardman Bakkies Botha. This was effectively a knock out game and the Bulls are notoriously difficult to beat in that type of game, even more so at Loftus. Surely the Bulls with their momentum of six consecutive wins and homeground advantage would prove too much for the Sharks who had stuttered their way towards the end of the Super rugby season. Somebody had forgotten to read that script to the Sharks. [...]
Loftus swansongs aplenty
Saturday’s big derby at Loftus between the Bulls and the Sharks will, in all likelihood, mark the end of the Super Rugby season for whichever team loses. This implies that whatever the result, their will be one or two big name players who won’t be seen in their team’s respective colours again. [...]
Windhoek Lager Team of the Week
Welcome to the Windhoek Lager Team of the Week for Round 17. We have decided to make it an all South African team and base it only on the weekend matches. So if your favourite player did not play on the weekend, he will not be in the team.

Bulls name strong lineup
The Vodacom Bulls have named their side to take on the SHarks at Kings Park this weekend. Showing four changes to the unit that annihilated the Melbourne Rebels last week, the most significant change to the team is the return of Victor Matfield to the starting lineup. [...]
What a load of Bullderdash…
Naas is going to have to forgive me. Because even though I live almost within spitting distance of Fortress Loftus (and believe me, if I could spit at it from here, I would) I am not known for my love of those blue-clad, behorned and invariably intoxicated fellows who tend to hang out there supporting a team all and sundry would have us believe to be rugby titans. [...]
Smit confirmed as World Cup captain
Peter de Villiers has done what I think is the most sensible thing, in retaining John Smit as captain of the Springboks in 2011. Despite question marks about the Sharks man’s form and ability to hold down a starting berth from some quarters, the coach has shown faith in his leadership team and backed Smit – along with vice captain Victor Matfield – to do the business one last time. [...]

PdV – I will have to be honest with the players
South Africa’s most experienced Springboks are currently struggling with their form. The Rugby World Cup is still a long way off, but Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers, believes he is going to make some hard choices if the situation does not improve soon. [...]

The Bok culture is more important than any one player
A recent article by Rob Houwing on News24 yet again highlighted the general feeling surrounding the importance of some of the core Springboks if we are to be successful in our quest to retain the Rugby World Cup later this year in New Zealand. [...]
