What we think will happen

We did a very quick poll to see what some of the contributors here at Sharksworld thought would happen this weekend. Perhaps these might help you with your own picks, if you haven’t already made them. Perhaps not!

Game 1: Crusaders v Brumbies

robdylan: Crusaders by 16
PJLD: Crusaders by 15
Sauce: Crusaders by 10
try time: Crusaders by 15
hellbent: Crusaders by 10

Not a lot of variety here. Everyone’s backing the Saders and reckons the 28-time champs are likely to give the new-look Brumbies a bit of a hiding. Pretty safe money, but don’t expect great odds.

Game 2: Reds v Highlanders

robdylan: Highlanders by 8
PJLD: Highlanders by 7
Sauce: Highlanders by 5
try time: Highlanders by 10
hellbent: Highlanders by 5

Another clean sweep of predictions. Nobody is giving the new look Reds a chance here. The Highlanders also showed some surprising form in the warmups, prompting all of us to pick them for an invaluable away win. Reds have some talented players, though, including new signing Morgan Turnui. Could be a surprise here.

Game 3: Sharks v Force

robdylan: Sharks by 8
PJLD: Sharks by 20
Sauce: Sharks by 10
try time: Sharks by 10
hellbent: Sharks by 15
admin: Force by 102

Apart from admin, who’s clearly having a strange moment, everyone is pulling the same way on this one. Some big margins predicted, particularly by our papsak-loving friend in the Cape. Well, I’m pretty confident that the Sharks can take these guys at home, but they’re a pretty slick outfit, the Force and let’s not forget they were one of the few teams to give us a proper hiding last year.

Game 4: Blues v Chiefs

robdylan: Blues by 3
PJLD: Blues by 15
Sauce: Blues by 7
try time: Draw
hellbent: Blues by 10

Some variation at last. TT is sitting on the fence, I’m giving the Blues the narrowest of margins, based on home ground advantage if nothing else. HB and PJLD seem to think it’s going to be a walk in the park for last year’s beaten semi-finalists. My gut feel says that this game is the one where there’s the best chance of an upset. Sione Lauaki, anyone?

Game 5: Waratahs v Hurricanes

robdylan: Waratahs by 10
PJLD: Hurricanes by 6
Sauce: Waratahs by 10
try time: Waratahs by 5
hellbent: Hurricanes by 10

A really mixed bag here. A tough one to call, seeing as we know very little about either side, really. I have picked the Tahs because I have a funny feeling about them this year. I think the ELV’s will suit their style HB and PJLD have shown how big theirs are by picking the away team, though.

Game 6: Stormers v Bulls

robdylan: Bulls by 8
PJLD: Stormers by 9
Sauce: Stormers by 3
try time: Stormers by 5
hellbent: Stormers by 5
admin: Stormers by 153

There’s a turnout for the books. Everyone bar me is going for a Stormers result here. Lovely if it happens, but I don’t see it. Stormers will rise and Bulls will fade this year, but I doubt it will happen in the first match. Could be wrong, hope I am!

Game 7: Cheetahs v Lions

robdylan: Cheetahs by 13
PJLD: Cheetahs by 12
Sauce: Cheetahs by 10
try time: Lions by 15
hellbent: Lions by 5

Another mixed bag. Who will come out on top in this cat fight? The Cheetahs backs look weak, but the Lions are missing some really key individuals going into this match, including Pretorius, Fourie, Joubert and Alberts. I went with the home side, but again anything can happen.

So that’s it, team… go get your picks in before the deadline. We’ll dissect and analyse who’s where in the standing after the weekend.

  • let us have it, guys… where are we right and where are we off the mark?

  • I am trying to convince myself that even Frans Ludeke cannot possibly turn the Bulls from super 14 champions into a team that would lose to the Stormers within the space of a few short months….

    Not sure it’s working. 😉
