The Lions have suffered a big blow with the news that they will be without their vice-captain, the Bok centre Jaco Pretorius for the crunch game against the Force on Friday evening.
Pretorius has failed to shake-off a niggling hamstring injury and will be replaced at outside centre by the utility back, Jaco van Schalkwyk.
The Lions have been hit hard by injuries to their Bok backs – first Andre Pretorius was ruled out for the Super 14, and then Jacque Fourie was forced to join him on the sidelines.
The inside centre Doppies la Grange will now take over the vice-captaincy, and young Jannie Boshoff replaces van Schalkwyk on the bench.
The rest of the team remains unchanged. The revised Lions team is:
Louis Ludik, Dusty Noble, Jaco van Schalkwyk, Doppies le Grange, Ryno Benjamin, Louis Strydom, Jano Vemaak, Joe van Niekerk, Ernst Joubert (capt.), Cobus Grobbelaar, Willem Stoltz, Gerhard Mostert, Ross Geldenhuys, Willie Wepener, Heinke van der Merwe. Replacements: Ethienne Reynecke, Gert-Andries van der Merwe, Franco van der Merwe, Willem Alberts, Chris Jonck, Earl Rose, Jannie Boshoff.
