WP Rugby came out in support of the Vodacom Stormers coach after allegations, aired in a Cape Times Column on Monday, accused him of not giving players in his squad equal opportunities.“When players of colour are not given a fair chance at Super 14 level, one has to question the manner in which South African coaches, in this case Erasmus, operate.

The principle of providing equal opportunities to all players in this country was one of the most significant statements De Villiers made on the day he was appointed Bok coach,” wrote Ashfak Mohamed in his Ruck & Maul Column in Monday’s Cape Times (26 February 2007, page 27). “Erasmus has now gone against the principle espoused by De Villiers.”

WP Rugby have come out in support of the Vodacom Stormers coach, strongly objecting against the allegations that Rassie Erasmus has “now gone against the principle espouse by De Villiers.”

WP Rugby would not in any way support the view that the Stormers team had been selected without providing equal opportunities to their players. The statement uttered by Mohamed in his column is simply not true. WP Rugby supports the process Rassie Erasmus has embarked upon to turn around the fortunes of the Stormers.

  • Mohamed is nothing but a sensationalist rabble-rouser. I treat him with the same disrespect as I do JJ Harmse

  • Well lets see, his backline isnt firing and Grant’s passing seems to be slow and kicking even worse…up n unders that go 10m forward and 300m up, he has another 10 who hasnt ever had an opportunity since U21 days and he sends him back to voda cup without giving him a chance, now how do we know if he would ever have made it, we can see grant is crapping himself, with a backline of immense pace one only wants a 10 with a blitz accurate pass and there we go….and good boot as the Stormers stay in trouble. i do though respect Rassie and think he is the best we have a by a mile

  • Look, Dollie made his WP CC debut in 2004.

4 years down the line and still no S14 exposure.

And yet we had some very average S14 players in Kleintjips, Gus Theron, Pierre Uys, David Hendricks, etc…

  • just give they guys a chance, you dont even need to let him stay as long the other who get 2 seasons to try n fit in, just 3 or 4 games will show his class or not, he showed class for Boland and they were hapless but ran a few big unions close once he was at 10, his got quick hands and right now 12, 13 need 10 to have quicker hands
