A former Springbok fullback and sometimes wing will join Kubota Spears in Japan after his season ends at Worcester where he has notched up 99 games so far
News 24 reports that Former Springbok fullback and sometimes wing, Thinus Delport, will join Kubota Spears in Japan after his season at Worcester ends.
Delport plays his 100th match for Worcerster on Saturday when they face Leicester in the Premiership. This match also marks his 200th match in the Premiership after he had played for Gloucester for a number of years.
Delport, who played in 18 Tests for the Springboks, including the 2003 World Cup, is the third player from Worcestershire to leave for Japan.
“Thinus is playing some of the best rugby of his career and there is a good chance he will make his 100th top-flight appearance against Leicester on Saturday,” club coach Mike Ruddock told Worcester news.
“Hopefully he will be able to keep playing that kind of rugby until the end of the season.
“We’ve got a ready-made replacement for him in Chris Latham, but it will be sad to see him go – on both a professional and personal level,” Ruddock said.

99 matches. 😯
How many games do they play per year?
Who can help with an answer here?
I see on the Bull site they have a magazine for sale celebrating Blue Bulls Rugby from 1938 to 2008. (70 Years)
Aren’t they a LOT older than that?
no – they aren’t.
They were part of Transvaal before then.
Wiki says they broke away from Tvl in 1899 though.
That is what raised the question for me.
oh – interesting.
I think Wiki is wrong
In my albeit limited knowledge of Blue Balls, I seem to remember them breaking away but still competing together with Transvaal in the Currie Cup.
You see in those days you couldnt just poach players as it was a long way to travel and so you had to actually rear your own…
I confirm.
The plit was in 1938 when the Noord Transvaal Rugby Unie was founded.
plit=SPLIT -sorry-
Thanks HO
So then why are the Bulls fans so arrogant about having all this HISTORY if they are almost 40 years younger than Natal. 🙄
I think they consider themselves the “purest Aryans” in South Africa. They are the Afrikaners and “B” stronghold in South Africa.
Actually they achieved a lot in rugby thanks to discipline and very good organization. Then they also found players like Naas Botha, John Williams, Gys Pitzer, Mof Myburgh and many other who played with their knives amongst their teeth to defend their beloved Loftus Versfeld.
They have been living following the Old Testament rules… 😯
“B” is a word I cannot write in my comments. Only in an email… 😳
HO 😆
At Sharksworld we have no problem with you saying Broederbond as none of us are members or subscribe to that line of thinking so you are safe here. 😉
HO
Correct or wrong. Danie Craven played for the Bulls in 1938? 😯
I thought he was a WP man all his life.
Danie played brief stints with Eastern Province and unfortunately also with Noord Transvaal.
I did not write Broederbond for some days ago robdylan told me to be very careful when using it…
and as I am a guest here I tend to respect other people views….
HO 🙂
He was pulling your leg i think. 😉
evening HO, respect is a good thing, but Robd doesn’t count 😉 😆
hey now 😉
hey rob, you know we love you 🙄
Hmmm, BANG goes Jaco van der Westhuysen’s title of being the best South African fullback in the Japanese league…. 😈
Delport has been outstanding for Worcester this season, mind you with Latham joining the mix next season, he’d only have gotten a game on the wing or off the bench. And I suppose that at 33, Japan is quite a nice place to earn a final fat paycheck & bring the curtain down on your career. (watch the Stormers contract him for the S14 next season
)
Quinny
And
KSA
I can’t help it that they’re both walking jokes….
Good job, Q!
