Stade Francais’ France international flyhalf David Skrela revealed on Friday that he has agreed a move to Toulouse for the next three seasons, reports Rugby365. “I’m leaving. It will be Toulouse … I’m going to sign a three-year contract which will bring me to the end of my career,” the 29-year-old told sports daily L’Equipe.”At Paris I’ve had some great sporting moments and I’m going to continue to give everything I have until the end of the season to leave with a new title,” he added.

Skrela has won the French title with Stade Francais twice (2004, 2007) since his arrival in 2003.

The son of French national technical director Jean-Claude Skrela, he has 14 caps for France, winning the Six Nations in 2007.

Stade Francais are currently third in the Top 14, and will play leaders Toulouse on Saturday, March 22 at Stade de France.

  • Interesting development….

Makes sense, as Stade Francais were sitting with Skrela, Lionel Beauxis and Juan Martin Hernandez all vying for the pink 10 jumper…. Fernandez had a pre-season hissy fit at having to move back to fullback to accomodate Skrela & Beauxis….

    The implications?

    For Stade Francais:
Could it mean that Hernandez will have second thoughts about joining Marcelo Loffreda at Leicester Tigers? He now has a chance to become first choice 10.

    For Toulouse:
Ta-ta Gaffie du Toit, perhaps it’s time to join the millionaire’s retirement home down in Toulon?
Et Fred Michalak? Now now, this is the truly interesting bit… why on earth would Toulouse contract two of the current French flyhalves? Was this not the problem Skrela had at Stade?

I can’t belive Skrela would get game-time ahead of Toulouse’s favourite son, unless they knew something we don’t know yet….

I have been hearing bad comments on Gabriel Stephanus “Gaffie” du Toit for longtime indeed (it all began after SA-NZ 18-31 in Pretoria before the 1999 RWC thanks to that bastard of Mallett…)
In my opinion Gaffie is another huge talent drowned in SA rugby chaos.
Anyway he is playing good rugby with Stade Toulousain.
David Skrèla is not a stalwart. He is nearing to the end of his career. He knows Juan Martin Hernandez and Lionel Beauxis will be the future of Stade Français so he hopes to spend his last years at home in Toulouse.
Michalak farewell to Stade Toulousain is the same as Thierry Lacroix and Olivier Roumat in 1995 when they remained in SA and played Currie Cup with Natal. Michalak won’t go back to Toulouse.
Hope you like to go on discussing with me this matter. Perhaps if you let me have your email address? 😯

    So what are Michalak’s options?
I’m pretty certain he signed with the Sharks for the Currie Cup as well, maybe there’s an option for 1 more S14 next year? Though I’m sure he’d like to play 6 Nations again….

On Juan Martin Hernandez, talk here in England is that he’s 90% probable of joining Leicester Tigers. He’ll re-join up with Marcelo Loffreda, who has promised him the 10 jumper – ahead of Andy Goode – if he joins. And of course he’ll get a LOT of money….

Gaffie, well, problem with him is that no-one knew whether he was a better flyhalf (confidence dented after NZ thumping on debut), fullback, or wing – where he played his last few games…

  • “Michalak won’t go back to Toulouse.”

I don’t know, I can’t see him not going back home at some point.

There was a bit of the same conversation going on over on the Sharks blog. I’d like to see how this plays out.

Has it actually been announced that Fred is staying in SA for the Currie Cup? All I’ve seen to date that he was down for S14 and then he’d take it from there.

  • Although if Fred is planning on staying in SA then two comment by JBE in a Q&A sessions makes me wonder if there is a lot more going on that we aren’t hearing.
