News24 reports that former Springbok tighthead prop Richard Bands, is injured again, and this time he will be off the field for between two and three weeks.
Bands was injured in the Vodacom Cup match against the Mighty Elephants in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
It is a completely different injury to the knee that kept him off the field last year after he had then also come back from yet another unrelated injury.
This time it is a little tear in a shoulder muscle – but the good news is Bands will only miss one game as the Blue Bulls aren’t playing over the Easter weekend.
The injury nevertheless comes at an inopportune time, as Bands is slowly getting his match fitness back.
Meanwhile Springbok hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle’s rehabilitation is going as scheduled after he had cartilage removed from his knee. He was injured 18 days ago during captain’s run before the Blue Bulls’ first Vodacom Cup match against the Eagles in George.
Wing John Mametsa is also doing fine after he injured his hamstring over the weekend against the Mighty Elephants. He was taken off as a precaution but will be able to play against the Cavaliers in Brits on Saturday.
The Blue Bulls will be without Henri Bantjes, Stefan Watermeyer, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Divan Kotze, Francois Brummer, Frik Kirsten and Mauritz Boshoff will be attending the SA Under-20 training camp.
Good news for the Blue Bulls is that scrumhalf JP Joubert, who was acquired from the Boland last year but has been sidelined for the past six weeks because of a knee injury, might be fit enough to play 20 minutes against his former team.
The medical team will make a call later this week regarding Joubert’s fitness for Saturday’s match.

Wish he can get into top notch again. Hope Chilliboy can get to matches aswell. I want Derick Kuhn on the flank also. He should make a killing there in tandem with Wikus and Spies.
Heard Big Vic has been playing on the flank at Toulon…
Ja on Keo he wants to get back home. The passle start to fit, that happen when you exchange biltong for padda boudjies. 😉
Richard Who?
Seriously, what is the big deal with this oke? He’s fat, unfit and injury prone. I can name 5 better tightheads without even really thinking about it.
Can’t he just give up and go away already?
Not related to rugby but check out this OTT reaction in the Daily Mail to a Pom dying from a Black Mamba bite…
Perhaps an eradication program would be in order to get rid of such a dangerous species. Tampering with nature is not usually wise, but this snake is just too dangerous to share the earth with other species.
– George, Fort Mac, Canada
Hope the skake will make it
them poms are a dirty lot.
And even more rubbish…
Black mambas are not only one of the fastest moving and venomous snakes on the planet, they are THE single most aggressive snake alive and once annoyed have been known to chase people for miles, and you need to be able to run like Linford Christie if you want to live.
– Steve, UK
Tosser… he should go hike through the Ozzie outback 😉
wasn’t Linford Christie a druggie?
lmao, I wonder if Brian Ashton is going to get sent a oneway ticket to the African savannah…
yes, but still a “role model”
what, did he do educational videos on how to inject safely, not share needles, that sort of fing? Innit?
Christie recovered
by some miracle,
from a torn hammie to win
in three weeks.
sangoma’s sweeties i presume.
maybe his body naturally produces extra nandrolone or summink
nuffink legal, tha’s for sure
where is Oubaas?
Yeah yeah,
the new thing is gene enhancement,
leaves no trace at all;
the next olympics will be a hoot.
oubaas? No doubt catching up on his beauty sleep
human growth hormone
yeah, it’s basically impossible to prove that the atlete has used it. Pfff, the Chinese are the worst cuplrits though. Remember their all-conquering swim team about 5 years back & their coach’s “health drink” that they all religiously drank….
Ol Richard Bands could do with a visit to either Linford’s doctor, or a bit of HGH…

Looks a biut like our own Oubaas, sans the grey hair… (in time of course)
yeah – that looks a bit like him
Rotation time arrives for Sharks
by Gavin Rich | 11 March 2008 (21:22)

Springboks AJ Venter and Ruan Pienaar are expected to return to the victorious Sharks team for Saturday’s Vodacom Super 14 clash with the Lions in Johannesburg.
Pienaar has been out of the mix since he injured his collar-bone against the Stormers three matches ago, in which time young Rory Kockott has established himself as the star newcomer at scrumhalf among the South African teams in the Super 14.
However, Kockott is one of several players who coach Dick Muir feels is nursing a niggling injury, so the return of Pienaar comes at just the right time. Muir has taken pains to point out that the Sharks won’t be fielding a B team at Ellis Park, but he will be resting players who have been going flat-out in the first four matches.
“We have reached a delicate stage of the season and while we have done well to win our first four matches it is absolutely crucial that we don’t surrender that momentum now before we travel overseas,” said Muir.
“This is the time when players will be feeling aches and pains and niggles from the stresses of the early matches, and we must manage our resources properly.”
Venter should return on the side of the scrum for Jacques Botes, who wore the No7 jersey in the win over the Blues. There again, Venter could just as easily also be accommodated as a lock partner for Johann Muller, a position filled last week by Albert van den Berg with Steven Sykes deputising.
Whatever he chooses to do, Muir does have options, and it is a pleasant dilemma that he sits with as his team prepare for this South African derby match. If the Lions had any hopes that the Sharks would be taking them lightly, they were dispelled by assistant coach John Plumtree at a press conference on Tuesday.
“For whatever reason, South African derbies are not like other Super 14 games and form often flies out of the window,” said Plumtree.
“Now that we are one of only two unbeaten teams everyone is going to want to beat us. If I was coaching the Lions I would be telling my players that the Sharks are coming to Johannesburg expecting to win and I would really rev them up for the occasion. So there is no question of us taking this game lightly.”
The talk of rotation though does suggest a couple of intriguing possibilities apart from the ones already discussed. For a start, Muir has been hinting for a while now that he would like to give Francois Steyn another go at flyhalf, and the rarified atmosphere of the Highveld might provide the perfect opportunity for him to do that.
If he does make this move, Stefan Terblanche will move from wing to fullback in place of Steyn, with Frederic Michalak taking a rest and Odwa Ndungane taking Terblanche’s place on the right wing.
hope ya dont mind rob just a new article online
id like to see the sharks play ruan at flyhalf with the macleod kid at scrummy , he is very nippy
infact this backline
15 stefan
14 murray
13 barritt
12 steyn
11 jacobs
10 ruan
09 macleod
what you guys think????
hey guys tell me what you think, but here is a team id like to see against the lions
15 stefan
14 murray
13 barritt
12 steyn
11 jacobs
10 ruan
09 maclead ( this guy is very nippy )
08 ryan
07 botes
06 daniel
05 muller
04 aj
03 bj or jannie
02 bismark
01 jannie / carstens
16 burden
17 carstens / beast
18 albert
19 deysel
20 odwa
21 epi
22 jp
i know i left some other good players out like sykes
if you look at that team its geared for fast running rugga
i know you cant play that team that way against every team but against lions it could be awesome
ok i forgot epi not here yet so replace him with 1 more prop so if bj is fit have carstens and beast on bench
man that will kill the lions
and if freddy is ok play him from bench and have 3 backs on bench
damn if one looks at it so mucg depth so many possibilities
is Barritt fast enough for 13?
ja, swap Adi & Barritt
how about swapping Barritt and Steyn?
lol, JP will be marking his cousin on the wing, should be fun!
aah – I was looking at ze wrong team.
14-Waylon
13-Jacobs
12-Barritt or Steyn
11-JP
Brad at WING?
NO! 👿
I was getting confused with SL’s multiple team postings!
If any of Adi, Barritt & Waylon should play wing it should be the latter. Bout time Adi got a start too. And not on the wing either.
Crumbs – Steyn at 10 against the dynamic Jaco van Schalkwyk? Could be a very interesting matchup
Jaco had butterfingers big time vs the Bulls. Hmmm, actually same can be said for most of the Lions team. 🙄
I think it’s pretty apt that the lions have red jumpers for the S14…. it’s a warning to all those nearby of the impending IMPLOSION that always happens…
Adi at 10 and Frans at 12 and let them swap at will… should make for some interesting footie, at least.
careful Quinny… we’ve lost a couple of games at Ellis Park recently that, according to the form book, we should have won by a country mile
guys the lions centers not that fast either so it wouldnt matter that much so yes id like to see the team as i have it
all i know is murray running at angles so too adi and stefan could cause havock from the back
and ruan and macleod should be quite nippy together
just look at this crap, printed on Suparugby…
“Weens die gebrek aan kleur in die Lions-kamp is Thabang Molefe ook opgetrek.
Die Leeus se gebrek aan kwaliteit kwotaspelers bly een van die span se kopsere.”
For those of us not versed in throat-disease, it says the following:
“As a result of the lack of colour in the Lions squad, Thabang Molefe has also been pulled in. The lack of quality quota players remains a headache for the Lions”.
With thinking like that so prevalent, it’s not surprising we’re not moving forward. Shame on you, you bunch of ignorant planks. It’s time to leave the stone age behind!
I’m keen to see Macleod go, that’s for sure.
Looks like we’re pretty much certain to see a Pienaar-Steyn halfback combo, though, based on what Dick is saying. How’s that for our second string?
lol thats just it rob so many choices the sharks have
macleod i reckon could cause havock with the likes of ruan steyn jacobs etc near him
ok – so what is special about this backline?
9 – Michalak
10 – Jacobs
11 – Murray
12 – Steyn
13 – Pietersen
14 – Pienaar
15 – Barritt
not bad bro
just another permutation lol
so many the sharks have
not sure about barritt at 15 though
“and stefan could cause havock from the back”
then again we all know what happened with Stef T in the CC semi…but surely lightening can’t strike twice in the same place?
Charl MacLeod. Oh yes. If anything the lad WILL have a HUGE point to prove against the Lions. I mean, they contracted him from the WP & then loaned him out to the Valke. WTF? Surely he wa a better option for their VC team last season than the ageing Dave von Hoesslin who was probably a few seasons past it…
my problem with pietersen of late is he hesitates to much
he allowes defences to recover
all i can say of mecleod is when i saw him play once is wow
quinney forget then >>……………………………
stefan is playing of his best rugby ever right now
i never seen him beter
infact
here is another option
15 ruan
14 murray
13 stefan
12 barritt
11 adi
10 steyn
09 macleod
damn its nice to have so many great options lol
Don’t you guys sleep 😯 🙂
ok – so what is special about this backline?
9 – Michalak
10 – Jacobs
11 – Murray
12 – Steyn
13 – Pietersen
14 – Pienaar
15 – Barritt
11.03.08 22:51:18 – robdylan Edit
Uhhhhm Dick has seen the light and Steyn is at 12?
lol ksa we stay awake to keep rob busy lol
well – the whole point with that backline of mine is that every one of those guys was picked out of position… I still think it would have worked quite well, though 😉
i saw rob lol
that is purely because of the talent these guys have
s_l… I really dig the idea of Stef at 13…
See KSA? I consider Steyn at 12 to be a player out of position 😉
Steyn of course could playe ANYWHERE in there. 😎
what about this backlilne lol
15 ruan
14 stefan
13 steyn
12 freddy
11 adi
10 barritt
09 macleod or cockitt
damn how many combo’s so far?? lol
trust me rob stefan would make a great 13
Ag they can just “gooi” the jerseys in a pile and tell the guys to pick them up.
You play in the number you pick up. 😉
ok… why don’t we just do what the Tahs wanted to do a few years ago? Get the guys to play without numbers, cos it’s essentially meaningless anyway
KSA – great minds, son 😉
😆
First I am Oubaas now i am son. 😯
You guys trying to confuse me, It’s not very difficult you know. 😉
maybe you son of oubaas hehehehe 😆
here is another backline
stefan
murray
epi
steyn
jp
freddy
ruan
lol
Interseting documentary on the Beeb Rob – called “The Poles are Coming!”
😆 😳
i think they’re outside my door as we speak!
They should rather have one called “The Ottos are coming”. My whole family is planning a British Invasion this year.
Evening Rob, KSA and co
Hey TG.
You must be a happy guy at the moment?
aha! Now here’s a man who means BUSINESS today 😉
Howzit TG. Still grinning?
We are pleased, but we know there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done. I am still impressed by how hard the guys works, especially the management team. I can now only truly appreciate why many coaches have short careerers.
How are things over there?
TG
YOU must have your work cut out for you this week?
Going from beating a team like the Blues and then ensuring that they guys don’t “go to sleep” for the Lions match must be tuff?
Rob for me this is the most important week of the competition. We get this right and we can build on it, however if we dont (in terms of preparation) it wont make our lives any easier
Ag, TG… it’s tough for us cheerleaders when the team plays so well. We don’t have much to do anymore 😉
KSA
The players are up for it, for me there is a strong leadership and emerging leadership component in the team, and they are doing really good things for the team. I believe we will be up for it, time will tell.
Timbo, quite honestly, this is ECXACTLY the time when the Sharks will traditionally put in a shocking performance. Need to break that pattern.
Rob
I know, we know. We have spoken about it as Plum said in his interview. It is NOT going to be easy, but I do believe in this team.
TG
great to hear that, keep up the good work, these guys have the skills to do it (go all the way) and having the mental “help” will make it easier.
I can’t spell when I type in caps :whoops:
So how’s Durbs treating you otherwise, chap? You having a blast? Saw pics of your sweet bachelor pad…
Rob, it looks like you may have a *CAPS* problem. There are reputable professionals who can help you with this, even support groups and regular meetings …
Hi my name is Robs …. and I suffer from CAPS….
Okay i have to ask…. “CAPS” ❓
something to do with stalking? 🙂
ignore me I am tired 😳
Rob
I am enjoying Durban, the time is flying. I cant believe I have been here over 3 months already. I am getting involved in everything I can, from helicopters to Cedric’s dinner next Wed.
Its an interesting world when you are a pseudo-celebrity, in that when you with the team people think you may be someone important, and tentatively ask your name as if they might have forgotten or be behind the times, and when you are incognito, you just feel this tremendous responsibility to give as much as you can to something that means so much to so many.
When we arrived back from OR Tambo from the bulls game, the arrivals hall at Durban International spontaneously burst into applause. I have never blushed whilst having goose bumps before. Its an interesting space to be in.
Anyway I have to get to bed.
almost 1 am and i have a long drive in a few hours time.
Tim
Good luck with the next few weeks and if we don’t talk to you before the tour again, goodluck with that especially.
have never blushed whilst having goose bumps before. Its an interesting space to be in.
11.03.08 23:53:42 – TG Edit
Good on you!!!!!!!!
Glad you are enjoying it.
I actually didn’t see you on TV during the Blues game, TG… maybe I was just too wrapped up in the match.
Are you attending Cedric’s dinner? I’ve been helping to raise awareness through the facebook group I created just after the accident.
Spamming is what I do best, after all 😉
Thanks KSA, good to chat to you, and as always really appreciate your support. Come what may, we are giving it 100%
Rob
Yip will be there with some of the team and management.
You are the most talented spammer I have ever met. Crazy skills.
I have perfected my technique over many years. Multi-channel, that’s the new big thing in spamming. Facebook has revolutionised the way I can reach out to people I’ve never met before 😉
Good on ya mate. Cheers. I am off to get some zzz’s
hey – next time you see that little Rocket monkey, please inform him that weaseling out of interviews with Sharksworld is bad for his karma 😉
okie-dokie. As always, really good to have a celebrity (and old friend) pop in 😉 Sleep tight. Guess I should also hit the old sack

looks like a sensible team, Charlie. In line with a lot of the comments I’ve heard from the coaches.
Did your “special friend” give you that lineup? 😉
I think giving Craig B and Adi starts makes a hell of a lot of sense as well
