The Cheetahs, without a win after seven matches in the Super 14 competition, will again be without their captain Juan Smith for Saturday’s match against the Reds in Bloemfontein.

News 24 reports that the World Cup flanker Smith injured knee ligaments in the match against the Blues on March 1 and was withdrawn from the squad shortly before they left for their four match-tour of Australasia.

Prop Kobus Caldo, who returned from Australia after injuring his calf in the penultimate tour match against the Brumbies on March 21, will also not be considered for the Reds match, according to the Cheetahs website.

The website also reports three other injured Springboks, lock Barend Pieterse, loose forward Kabamba Floors and fullback Bevin Fortuin, should be available for selection

  • When he comes back I think the Cheetahs will start winning these close games….

One swallow doesn’t make a summer. You got that spot on.

I do believe though that there are a few players in SA with whom their teams cannot do without. John Smit is a good example as a player with whom the boks couldn’t do without.

Matfield is one the Bulls can’t do without and so to I believe Juan is someone the Cheetahs need.
