The Hurricanes have changed their midfield for their Super 14 match against the unbeaten Sharks in Wellington on Saturday night.

Canes coach Colin Cooper made just one change to his starting 15, with Tane Tu’ipulotu preferred ahead of Tamati Ellison at second five-eighths, according to www.stuff.co.nz.

Ellison didn’t have the best of matches in last week’s loss to the Crusaders and can’t even find a place on the bench.

The Sharks are second in the standings following six successive wins, while the Hurricanes are fourth after losing two of six matches.

HURRICANES: 15 Cory Jane, 14 Ma’a Nonu, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Tane Tu’ipulotu, 11 Shannon Paku, 10 Jimmy Gopperth, 9 Piri Weepu, 8 Rodney So’oialo (c), 7 Chris Masoe, 6 Jerry Collins, 5 Jason Eaton, 4 Craig Clarke, 3 Neemia Tialata, 2 Andrew Hore, 1 John Schwalger. Reserves: 16 Hikawera Elliot, 17 Jacob Ellison, 18 Jeremy Thrush, 19 Thomas Waldrom, 20 Alby Mathewson, 21 Willie Ripia, 22 Hosea Gear.

  • Rob,

Do your “1-3 are fat, then 4-5 are tall” comparison between the Canes & the Sharks.

  • They have a decent hooker, excellent loosies and some attacking backs….we should do it….we may need to bring on Epi earlier then anticipated to counter their muscle at the break-down.

  • Canes handicap is the big black girl.
Should add “Hair like a mop” to Sharks 13.

    Canes to win.
They have 3 HUGE whereas Sharks have only 2 HUGE and 1 BIG.

From your analysis it is clear then that nrs 1,2 & 13 of the Sharks should be their loosies πŸ’‘

  • Cab – actually I don’t buy that.

Weepu and Pienaar are basically carbon copies of each other, but Kockott is much better than Mathewson. Gopperth is a journeyman – never been anything more, whereas Fred is a real star. Smith and Nonu are the only real stars in the 3/4 line for the Canes, although handbag boy hasn’t been playing well this year. Brad, JP, Frans and Odwa have their number… and Stefan has so much more experience than Jane, although the latter is admittedly a very dangerous runner.

No… I think we have a far stronger 22 than they do. We just need to play to our potential for once

  • rob,
i think the sharks have a stronger squad too and are coming off 6 wins so they could quite easily win and picking them to do so is definitely a good bet…HOWEVER, i just feel dont get that sense of balance with Sykes, Daniel and Botes in the same starting pack…i also think steyn at 13 is a gamble, an educated one, but a gamble nevertheless…for these reasons i would tip the cane’s for a suprise win.
I will be cheering the sharks on and it is a great squad, the best in SA.
