Cheetahs’ Bok lock retires

Bloemfontein – Springbok and Cheetahs lock Barend Pieterse will retire after the Currie Cup season.

Pieterse will explain his reasons for the shock retirement on Tuesday evening. Pieterse is also expected to confirm whether he will be available for the Springbok training squad to be announced on Saturday after the final Super 14 group match between the Sharks and Chiefs.

In a short statement on Tuesday, OFM radio reported business and injury reasons for the early retirement.

  • He was really playing well the last two seasons and the Cheetahs stood their ground and often dominating with him there…

    Was he not teh leading lock on own line-out wins and steals for the 2006 S14 comp!?!?

    Sad but I guess life comes first…
