The Springbok training squad to be announced on Saturday will not include any players involved in the Vodacom Super 14 rugby semi-finals.
News24 reports that Sharks or Stormers players selected in the squad will only be named at the conclusion of their teams’ participation in the tournament.
Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has agreed to the arrangement in deference to requests from the franchises

I men athe squad is already selected…performances in the Semi’s and Finals will not matter a bit…

I’d think that they will actually be encouraged to play harder….I mean being excited for making the squad!??!
Unless they fear they might hold back in fear of getting injured!??!
there must be something we are missing here.
They MUST have three training squads availabale for announcement.
1) Nobody makes it
2) Both make it
3) Sharks make it
4) Stormers make it.
Take option two for example. What would the use be of naming a squad that doesn’t have ANY flyhalves in it. Surely it will be Butch and Grant with Steyn and Pienaar as backup. So if both sides go through they will have a squad training without a flyhalf. What USe is that?

Somebody was saying earlier today that PDV would handing out Bok olours willy-nilly. Based on this that seems a fair assumption 🙄

If both go through it will be a severely depleted squad of about 30 or so, restricted to Admin for the week ‘coz most of them aren’t there.
The squad starts training next week, that’s why it has to be named on Saturday.

i say give the guys who don’t make the Semi’s a weeks rest first.
PdV is obviously eager to start…and I think they start with the assessments of the players first…
And of course there is a chance that we don’t get any SA teams in the semi’s 😯
