Hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau has been ruled out of the HSBC Waratahs’ Super 14 semifinal against the Sharks.
Report courtesy the official NSW Rugby web site.
Polota-Nau left the field after 35 minutes against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Saturday with a sprained hand.
“My hand’s swollen so I can’t throw or bind at the moment, but I’m confident the guys can do the job on Saturday and hopefully I’ll be right for next week if we get through,” said Polota-Nau.
After some impressive early season form for Northern Suburbs in the Tooheys New Shute Shield, HSBC Junior Waratahs captain Al Manning has joined the Super 14 squad.
Manning, 26, made his Waratahs debut in 2004 and has since played 16 times for NSW, with his only Super 14 appearance coming against the Bulls in March 2007.

One down… 😈 and we’ll have our strongest front row…
Anyway…what happened to the semi kick off times ? Rob…KSA?
09:35 and 12:00
@KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : Both on Saturday? Hope someone lets the good folk at Sky know. They seem to think there’s one on Friday.
Maybe the one on Friday is the one where the Stormers will be involved after beating the Lions on Tuesday. 🙄
Than again Sky is not always that reliable with their schudule on their site.
Lyons might was taken rugby tips personally from Webb-Ellis but he is still a good replacement, he runs hard and straight from the base of the scrum.
Didn’t the Tahs buy that second hand hooker from WP to play S14 for them?
WhoWeAre Edmunds or something like that.
@Dive Pass (Comment 6) :
Oops 😳 …mixing up the number 8 with the hooker….
Edmunds is with the Brumbies isnt he?
Oh shit 😳
The SuperSport website gives the times as follows:
Crusaders vs Hurricanes 09h35
Sharks vs Tahs 12h00
Both on Saturday.
Sorry KSA 😳 teach me to read before I type!
@Nessa (Comment 12) :
Don’t worry Nessa….look at my comments…I don’t even read the headlines!! 😳
@Dive Pass (Comment 13) :
Thanks 😀
Gonna be a lekker rugby day on Saturday. Two S14 semi’s & the Heineken Cup Final. 😀
@Nessa (Comment 14) :
Hey Ness…I know we gonna do it!! 😀
From 365
GMT Times
Saturday, 24 May:
C’saders v H’canes (07.35)
Waratahs v Sharks (10.00)
From Supersport Tv Schedule (SA Time)

What happens if there’s a draw?
And now that I’ve updated the Fixtures page I can just say
“Go look at the fixtures page” 😉
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 18) :
Extra time, but not sure how much.
Which does raise the point that there is a nice gap between the two matches.
SF1 should finish around 11:15 SA time
@Nessa (Comment 12) :
Hey i’ve just returned the favour 😳
I should also read before typing.
I see Keo is all over the story about the Stormers buying our sloppy seconds. I wonder if a certain bearded mountain goat might rethink some of his dull “geriatric” chirps 😉
Adam Freier is a Wallabie…
@robdylan (Sharks Forever!) (Comment 22) :
We could with Percy back but I could understand him wanting to finish his career where he started.
So can you guys tell me – with the announcement of the Bok “training” squad – there are about 42 names on the list already. As they said the list would be 45 players – does that mean there are only 3 places left for Sharks players? Surely not???
@Dive Pass (Comment 24) : I don’t really think we need to have sleepless nights about losing Percy. What we do need, though, is to unearth a couple fo decent young prospects at fullback
@robdylan (Sharks Forever!) (Comment 26) :
LMAO, typical Cape spin. When did Smit ever say WP was his second choice – though he probably will end up there.
And don’t you just love it – when the Sharks have a bit of “depth” they are accused of not giving enough game time to their players & neuking careers up, but pray tell me how will they accomodate Jantjes & Monty + AJ & all their loose forwards…?
I suppose all the other regions’ press is perfectly objective. 🙄
@Nessa (Comment 25) :
Nessa IMO no.
You have to consider that the squad was calculated on the basis that that Sharks and Stormers were going to play semi’s.
In short there are a few players in there who would not have been there had the Sharks and Stormers actually made the semi’s.
The squad would not have been able to train if both teams were not there, so some extra had to be added.
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 28) : yes. I mean, look at the quality of objective reporting here on Sharksworld 😉
@robdylan (Sharks Forever!) (Comment 30) : Yeah, right. 🙂
I’m surprised Smit didn’t say Province was always, deep down inside, his first choice. Everybody wants to play for WP, not so? Only the ones not good enough to make it go and play elsewhere. 😉
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 28) :
Of course!
But c’mon, Voldemort takes the cake.
Personally I think these signings will mean sweet f-all for the Super14 next season, honestly can’t the Stormers find younger quality players – look at the nurseries they have on their doorstep (Maties, Paul Roos, Paarl Gym, Paarl Boys, etc etc). AJ will be 36 next year, and Monty 35. Only Smittie would have some LT potential.
@Le Requinny (Comment 33) : Agreed. I have not read the Smith article on Keo yet, but I’m sure old Voldy won’t hold back. Nothing like a bit of tabloid journalism to stir the hornets nest.
And I have also not read the SMIT article… 🙄
I also don’t quite understand the AJ signing, but maybe he’ll get involved with the coaching.
Monty might still have a season in him, but there’s Jantjes.
Smit I’d take any day of the week.
Providing all these ‘signings’ actually happen of course.
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 35) :
Apparently the Montgomery rumour started way back post the World Cup when Monty told Keo’s kid he’d “love to play for WP again”… now couple with the news that Monty hasn’t decide whether he’s going to stay at Perpigan for one season, and Keo does the mnaths: 1+1 = 3 🙄
I don’t think its that simple though, cause I believe that he still has his hoome in Durbs & the reason he moved to Durbs was so that his wife’s family could be close to their grandkids…
So I guess what I’m trying to say is that we’ll see who wears the pants in the Montgomery household pretty soon, as well as whether Keo is really talking sh!t.
“Geriatric” Sharks never die.
They retire to WP.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 40) :
LMAO – TRUE!
we can use that as a heading IF there is an official announcement 😉
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 37) : You actually need two quality props more than you need another hooker.
The only province that REALLY needs Smit as a hooking option is the Bulls. And that’s the one place he would never play
@robdylan (Sharks Forever!) (Comment 43) :
Smit IS a better quality prop than anything they currently have in the Cape. If Mujati is the best they have to offer, they should be jumping all over Smit as a prop option.
Stormers definitely need a top quality prop or two. But who’s available?
What I need is a top quality drink or two.
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 45) :
John Smit – experience at both tighthead and loosehead in the international arena. 😉
@racheltjiedebeer (Comment 46) :
I can make a damn fine margarita!
Not to mention a fine rum boat drink as well. 😆
@Dancing Bear (Comment 49) :
I have the Captains and Coke ready for Saturday. 😎
Will have to see if i am celbrating or drowning sorrows later. 🙄
@Dancing Bear (Comment 48) : Sounds lekker. Sorry I missed it. I’ve settled for lager instead.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 29) :
Thank you.
