Several SA players have been included the the Baa-Baas squad to tackle Belgium, Ireland and England.

News 24 reports that among the backs, Thinus Delport (Worcester), Jaco Pretorius (Lions) and Michael Claassens (Bath) have been selected while the forwards include Cobus Visagie (Saracens), Ollie le Roux (Leinster), Ross Skeate (Stormers) and Pedrie Wannenburg (Bulls).

Also included are discarded England duo Lesley Vainikolo and Iain Balshaw could play against the national side after being picked in a 30-man Barbarians squad.

The Gloucester pair were left out of England’s squad to tour New Zealand, but will now get the chance to showcase their talents for the Baa-Baas.

Coached by Cardiff Blues boss David Young, the Baa-Baas should give a debut to former Wales captain Gareth Thomas.

The Barbarians are taking on Belgium, Ireland and England.

The Belgium game is on May 24, Ireland – at Gloucester’s Kingsholm ground – on May 27 and England on June 1.

Three other England players – Danny Grewcock, Mark Regan and Andy Gomarsall – are also in the Barbarians squad.

“Everyone in rugby knows what the Barbarians stand for and the traditions they hold,” said Vainikolo.

“To have the chance to represent them at Kingsholm is a fantastic honour and something I am really looking forward to.”

  • Actually DP I watched the Belgium – Argentina match and the Belgians showed plenty of courage. It was a lot like the SA – USA match in the RWC.

I am hoping that it will be the same on Saturday.

Unfortunately my ladies had to turn down the invitation to play the Baa Baa’s as we are short on numbers this week with 5 of them playing for the Belgian ladies in the EU Championship in The Netherlands.

  • Maybe bio, but Belgium has been climbing the IRB ranks in the last year or 2. I think about 2 years ago they were aound 50 and now the mid 30’s.

They play with plenty of heart and for the full 80 minutes plus they enjoy running the ball, so it’s a pleasure to watch even if the score gets a bit high.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 6) : Right. And there’ll be the trophy and winners medal in his luggage too. Probably best if he goes straight back to Durbs
