It seems there were quite a few interesting little bits of news, some nice, some not so nice, that seemed to slip under the radar during the build up to the S14 Semi-Finals.
Boela Du Plooy
Boela Du Plooy will not be returning to Bloemfontein after he declined a substantial but undisclosed offer from the Cheetahs. Du Plooy is currently playing for Stade Francais in Europe has an offer of player-coach on the table. It is not clear if this is from the Cheetahs or anyone else.
According to a player agent in SA it would not be surprising to see Du Plooy return to SA as a Hotel magnate. A leading Hotel group are interested in having Du Plooy at the helm of 5 hotels that are being planned for South Africa.
Player suspended for assaulting referee
A Disciplinary hearing was conducted on 19 May into the assault of 3rd division referee Milton Bolawa after a club match between Collegians III and Crusaders III on 16 May.
The outcome of the hearing was that two players were found Not-Guilty on the charge of behavior in contravention of good sportsmanhip (conduct unbecoming a sportsman). One of the players involved was found guilty of conduct unbecoming a sportsman and has been suspended from all levels of rugby, in any capacity for two years.
The incident reportedly occurred while the referee was in the Collegians change room after having abandoned the match early due to incidents during the match.
I wholeheartedly applaud the OFS Union for taking this stance against abuse of an official, but am extremely disappointed that they have declined to name and shame the player involved.
Sias Ebersohn called up to join SA u/20’s
Sias Ebersohn has been called up to join the SA u/20 squad in Saldanhabay as a specialist flyhalf. Eric Sauls made the decision to call on Ebersohn after Juan de Jongh (center) was forced to withdraw from the squad due to an unspecified injury. The SA u/20 will take part in the World Championship in Wales in June.
Ebersohn joins his brother in the squad.

C’mon OFS, Name and shame the player! 👿
What’s the use of banning the guy for two years if you tell nobody who you banned. 🙄
I thought Collegians and Crusaders were Durban clubs?
@robdylan (Comment 2) :
they are world wide clubs 😉
Unless the boys from Dbn are playing in the S14 Final this weekend. 🙂
Sias Ebersohn called up to join SA u/20’s …. this boy should have been there to start with
This is good news.
@spykerbaard (Comment 4) : are they playing in the Hobbit league? 😉
i dont always get your humour RD, explain
@spykerbaard (Comment 7) : those Ebersohns are skillful, but they’re very small
ok, thought it might be that…their size doesnt worry me too much as i didnt see anyone better to take their places, but now youre starting something, just now they’ll be known as the hobbit twins and might be getting a complex
by the way, do you know how big/small Dolly is? i read a lot of comments on keo about him being too small to make it at top level, but he looked pretty average sized when i saw him playing
@spykerbaard (Comment 4) :
that was my initial response as well.
@spykerbaard (Comment 10) :

@KSA Shark © (Comment 11) :
hi there KSA… what i’m really interested in now is who are we going to have available this cc… have you any idea who might be coming up from the wbeest side, whats going on with Hargreaves and Blignaut etc
@KSA Shark © (Comment 12) :
thanks, ok so he could put on a few kgs
@spykerbaard (Comment 13) :
that question is on my mind as well and Rob (I think it was him) raised another very valid question this am. Is the emerging bok tour overlapping the CC and the Senior Bok season?
In othewr words are we losing our whole S14 team? 😉
@KSA Shark © (Comment 15) :
do we not have the dates for these comps? i’d love to know who’s left and who’s going to upgrade from the wildebeest
Spyker – the way some of the guys played on Saturday – one wonders if PdV won’t use this as an excuse to not pick them?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 15) : we do. We will be without our Emerging Boks as well as our Springbok squad members for the opening game against WP on 20 June. The Egerging boks will be back for the next game against Boland on 27 June, but the Boks in the 3N squad will be away for most of July and August as well
Or maybe he will pick our guys and then leave them sitting on the bench like Jake often did.
@Nessa (Comment 17) :
Nah PdV is to clever to read that much into ONE match and also to clever to fall into the trap of listening to the Anti Shark brigade out there.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 20) :
We can only hope so.

Okay – just popped on to say hi – going to do some retail therapy. My niece’s birthday today and I don’t have a prezzie for her.
Later!
@Nessa (Comment 19) :

@Nessa (Comment 23) :
Cheers Nessa
