According to Midi Olympique Toulon are on the point of signing Jerry Collins for next season.

Rugby 365 reports that Collins, a modern icon of New Zealand rugby, will apparently pitch up in person in Toulon and sign a contract with the club’s president, Mourad Boudjellal.

He is likely to do this despite the offer of more money from Bayonne. Collins prefers playing with Dan Carter to the extra money.

Carter is due to arrive in Toulon in January 2009.

  • Mourrad B has bought into a team that has a glorious histroy in French rugby but has been struggling in recent years. He has, in two years, brought it back up from second division to the Top 14 and aims to restore its former glory. He has a financial plan for the team, he isn’t just throwing money at it for the sake of it but strongly believes it will gain cash in a couple of years. With all the departing players like year like Matfield, he obviously needs to find new ones for the Top 14.

I saw them play this year, it was quite strange with Umaga (coach), greegan, matfield, meerthens, Anton Oliver playing in the French second division in front of 10,000 fans.
