Former All Black hitman Jerry Collins has signed a three-year contract with Toulon, the newly-promoted French first division club coached by his cousin Tana Umaga.
“Collins will arrive in mid-July” in time for pre-season training, said Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal on Tuesday.
The Samoa-born 27-year-old will become the club’s sixth All Black acquisition after Umaga himself, Andrew Mehrtens, Anton Oliver, Saimone Taumoepeau and Nathan Mauger.
The Hurricanes backrow forward won the last of his 48 New Zealand caps during last year’s World Cup.
He will likely have his first chance to don the red-and-black of Toulon in three pre-season friendlies in August against local club Carque-Hyeres, new Top-14 rivals Toulouse on August 15, and Australian Super 14 outfit the Queensland Reds a week later.
