Free State pick team for Griquas clash

The Free State Cheetahs have included two present Sevens Springboks in their starting line-up and one on the bench for their first Currie Cup match against Griquas in Kimberley on Friday.

Flank Schalk van der Merwe gets his opportunity because of injuries to Darron Nell and Duanne Vermeulen, while Sevens captain Neil Powell has been preferred to another Sevens Bok, Jandre Blom, at scrumhalf. Kabamba Floors is on the bench.

Eddie Fredericks, Jongi Nokwe and Heinrich Burrow have also played for the Sevens Boks. Springbok Bevin Fortuin is a former captain of the Emerging Sevens Boks.

Springbok Meyer Bosman is not quite ready for a match at this level yet and Hendrik meyer comes in at inside centre to partner JW Jonker.

The Free State Cheetahs team is: Bevin Fortuin; Eddie Fredericks, JW Jonker, Hendrik Meyer, Jongi Nokwe; Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Neil Powell; Schalk van der Merwe, Hendro Scholtz (capt.), Heinrich Brüssow, Barend Pieterse, Flip van der Merwe, Kobus Calldo, Adriaan Strauss, Wian du Preez. Replacements: Jaco du Toit, Ronnie Uys, David de Villiers, Kabamba Floors, Jandre Blom, Chris Rossouw en Hennie Daniller.

    Still a decent Cheetahs side though.
