South African Sevens star Stefan Basson will make his first appearance for the Boland Cavaliers when they face the Falcons in the opening round of the Absa Currie Cup competition in Brakpan on Friday.
Rugby 365 reports that Basson was selected to start on the bench, but could have a big influence on the match.
Obviously coach Louis Koen will not wait too long before he sends Basson onto the field.
His darting runs and brilliant handling skills could prove valuable for the Bolanders.
Another Sevens Springbok, Mpho Mbiyozo, will start on the bench, while Frankie Horne, possibly the most improved SA Sevens player, will wear the No.6 jersey.
At centre Lionel Cornelius comes in for injured Kobus Meintjes, who injured a rib in last week’s friendly match against the South Western District Eagles at Robertson.
Boland: 15 Justin Peach, 14 John Daniels, 13 Piet van Zyl, 12 Lionel Cornelius, 11 Alvin Hugo, 10 Elgar Watts, 9 Marnus Hugo, 8 Dries van Schalkwyk, 7 Whalied Heyns, 6 Frankie Horne, 5 Coenie Basson, 4 Cecil Kemp, 3 Andries Human, 2

Replacements: 16 Clemen Lewis, 17 WP Nel, 18 Frikkie Spies, 19 Mpho Mbiyozo, 20 Ricardo Jones, 21 Deon Scholtz, 22 Stefan Basson.

Congrats to Marnus Hugo for making the Boland side. Surely one of not many to play provincial cricket & rugby. Think he was at the Sharks academy a few years back and one year before Dewald Duvanhage Gimmies nr9.
Hope Boland have a good season after all the trouble they had. If Fidentia was still OK they would have been great by this time.
@PaarlBok (Comment 11) : That Fidentia thing was blind ekse, was very amped for Boland(except then they wanted to sign TGHMQD)
