Sharks coach John Plumtree has been forced to pick a new right wing for Friday’s clash against Border.
Lwazi Mvovo will make his Currie Cup debut in the number 14 jersey, with JP Pietersen and Odwa Ndungane both selected to tour the Antipodes with the Springboks. Flyhalf Bradley Barritt has been bracketed with Andrew Borgen, the latter making his debut should Barritt fail to recover in time from a number of various niggles.
The rest of the team is the same as the one which did battle against WP last weekend. Big Nikloai Blignaut comes onto the bench in place of Albert van den Berg, while Charl MacLeod, Riaan Swaneopel and Monty Dumond will form a completely new backline replacement division.
Sharks team to take on Boland:
15 Stefan Terblanche, 14 Lwazi Mvovo, 13 Waylon Murray, 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Henno Mentz, 10 Brad Barritt/Andrew Borgen, 9 Rory Kockott, 8 Keegan Daniel, 7 Steven Sykes, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Johann Muller (capt), 4 Alistair Hargreaves, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Deon Carstens
16 Skipper Badenhorst, 17 Robbie Harris, 18 Nikolaie Blignaut, 19 Skholiwe Ndlovu, 20 Charl Macleod, 21 Riaan Swanepoel. 22 Monty Dumond

not sure why Sykes is still at 7 and Hargreaves at 4…

I see from this post that we only have 1 wing! perhaps it is all we need but Henno did not really to be left out completely. And is this a form of a handicap only fielding 14 players?
Big Nikloai Blignaut
LoL…he is lig in die broek….
@Ragged (Comment 2) : oops. Thanks!
BJ Botha???
@Salmonoid (Comment 5) : I’ve heard that name…
Sharks have too many props…
@Hmmm (Comment 7) :
Besides the 3 in the match 22 they have Pat/BJ/Beast…
That is 6 who are capable of playing CC….
@Hmmm (Comment 8) : not to forget Melusi “Burra” Mtetwa π
@robdylan (Comment 9) :
Can we trade props for other players for the duration of the CC?
@robdylan (Comment 9) :
But he ain’t CC quality!??!
@Dive Pass (Comment 10) :
Some decent backline players!??! Think that is a good idea…
Just don’t trade with the LIONS…cannot guarantee you’ll get better than what you have other than LLudik and WVenter….
Ludik is overrated and the Sharks don’t really need any centres.
He really is the Johan Roets of SA rugby. In other words, the up-and-under King!!!
Hennie Daniller can’t make the Cheetahs 22 and we’re stuck with Terblanche and Dumond. Strauli hasn’t a clue when it comes to backs.
@wpw (Comment 13) :
Nah…
He is a tad overrated…but he brings a lot to teh game (esp from fullback)…he fields the ball well…very good under the high ball…and is a strong runner…I actually think the only thing he does not do well enough is kick…his very long kicks are to few and far between…
They do…Murray sucks big time and Strauss is ordinary…with Barrit at 10…they do…
@Flashman (Comment 14) : Dumond was not to bad when he played a season or so ago…what happened!??!
lol. I see BJ is overlooked again!
Seems nobody rates him… π
@VinChainSaw (Comment 17) : I think a lesson is being taught
@robdylan (Comment 18) :
I think it is dof.
By both De Villiers and the Sharks to not pick the best 3 in SA.
These little personal battles on whose winky is bigger than mine serves no-one
@robdylan (Comment 1) : Sykes at 7 just didn’t work but I guess one game is not really fair to judge the experiment. Am willing to give it another game. It seems to me that Plum is not convinced that Downey or Rhodes are ready to step up.
@MorneN (Comment 19) : nobody’s winky is bigger than mine.
@Villie (Comment 20) : Rhodes has a stuffed knee, as far as I can tell
@robdylan (Comment 21) :
Well if you call it a winky I cannot imagine that it can be big at all….
@VinChainSaw (Comment 17) :
And yet he never does badly….
@MorneN (Comment 19) :
I guess Mujati must be very well hung then….
@Hmmm (Comment 24) :
But that must be all he has then cozz there is no other reason for him to be selected…
There must be more behind the BJ Botha story that meets the eye? PdV gets criticised for not selecting him and now the Sharks leave him out… What is behind it? Niggling injuries? Attitude problems? PMS?
@JT (Comment 26) :
I think the Sharks haven’t selected him just because he hasn’t been with them for a while and they have a player of the calibre of Jannie DuP in his place….
@JT (Comment 26) :
Well BJ said he is in teh dark!??! Not sure himself why he is not selected and he said he has no injuries…
Maybe the Sharks felt it was too late in teh week to select him for FRIDAYS game…2 days!??!
@Hmmm (Comment 28) :
So why all the hoohah flying PdV’s way for not selecting him? If he was THAT good he would have been selected for the Guppies at least on the bench, no?
@JT (Comment 26) :
MorneN says it is cozz his winky is not big enough (see comment 19)
@JT (Comment 29) :
Hey man….Jannie is very good and maybe they are giving BJ a weeks break…remember he went straight from the S14 semi into the Bokke training camp…into the test matches…so I doubt that…
The Sharks rate him and he was their first choice throughout the S14…
@JT (Comment 26) : Contract problems IMO…AJ Venter scenario not long ago… π
Sharks playing both Boland & Border on Friday? π― π
@ra-cheltjie deβ be-er (Comment 33) :
They could and win both matches π
@Charlie (Comment 32) :
Nah I think you guys are reading far too much into the Sharks into the BJ exclusion in the Sharks team…
Hi all
anyone can explain me the real reasons for Plumtree did not call BJ Botha? π―
@JT (Comment 29) :
Against Boland its hardly a battle against one of SA rugby’s superpowers…..
