This is the one we’ve all been waiting for.

Will the All Blacks overcome the loss of their skipper and their post World Cup blues to maintain an unbeaten record over the Boks at home going back 10 years?

Or will Peter de Villiers and his boys defy the odds and claim the greatest scalp in the modern game: that of the Kiwis in their own back-yard?

Kick-off in Wellington is at 09h35 SA time.

  • I will not be commenting either as I am on Dial up.

Hows this for a STUPID thought?

I am actually surprised 365 ran the story unless it was to point out how stupid the French are.

    End to uncontested scrums?
    Fri, 04 Jul 2008 17:12

René Hourquet, the former international referee and current boss of France’s referees, has started the ball rolling to end the practice of uncontested scrums.

At present uncontested scrums, introduced in the interests of player safety, occur when a team is unable to field suitably trained players for specialist positions in the front row of scrums.

Following a congress of French referees in Toulouse which ended on Friday, Hourquet has written to the IRB, stating France’s intention to so change the law that a team unable to provide adequately trained players for the front row then be obliged to continue the match with 14 players.

So what happens if there are NO Front rows left who can play? Do you play a scrumhalf at prop and continue with contested scrums?

It is a safety issue and will never be done away with as mush as we all dislike uncontested scrums.

Unless you say you are. 😉

Biggest loophole in Rugby that IMO. The only thing that determines if you are a recognised / experienced FR player is YOUR say so.

  • Dickenson could be forgiven for not wanting to issue a Red early in the game, but Naas has it spot on. Had it been Butch James using the Elbow or Spear tackling Carter in the same manner, we would have been playing with 14 men.

  • Matfield can’t lead a team to save his life.

Only PdV will know why he played Steyn ahead of Grant as a #10 sub

  • Terrible conditions, and a host of players new to the ELVs.Coulda been worse – we should have been hammered a bit more.

So Jacobs cant tackle huh? Ja, they ran right over him all game didnt they? 🙄

JDV is absolutely brilliant at the moment; him and Adi could really blossom together.

Butch was a bit off-colour and I wonder if his kicking wasn’t injury-effected?

Big Joe wasn’t good at 8 in my opinion – call me biased, but I would like to see Kanko start.

Oh, and the scrums were rubbish.

  • JDV missed about 5 tackles, Adi had to make up for that defensive slip, simialr to Habana who made 2 tackles in the game (according to th TV stats) and probably missed 3 or 4.

Sure he scored a try, but Habana is far from the complete player in my mind.

Thorn should have been sent from the field for a Spear tackle AFTER the ref had blown his whistle.

  • I counted. Adi made 9 tackles and missed 0

  • @hellbent (Comment 21) :
Thorn first tackled Jantjies high, then stiff-armed him, THEN speared Smit.

Habana had a poor game. Jantjies was very good though. Matfield and Joe were almost non-existent.

  • @hellbent (Comment 21) : It was not a spear “tackle”, Smit did not have the ball.. 🙄 was just plain thuggery IMO 😡 @robdylan (Comment 22) : I thought Adi played a 🙂 great game & certainly made the try 🙂 @KSA Shark © (Comment 17) : Could not agree with you more..on both points ❗

  • We didn’t play the conditions as well as them and made selection mistakes. leaving BJ behind was an unbelievable decision. 🙄 Tighthead is the cornerstone of your scrum and CJ just isn’t on the same level as BJ in the scrumming dept. We got drilled in the scrums but everyone knew that was going to happen when we saw the team selected.

JDV was excellent, especially on attack. Adi had a very good game, and only missed one tackle (on Nonu..but that was a combined miss by him and JDV).

Agree that Butch was off his game but we tried to play rugby in our own half, silly in those conditions.

Still, I have no doubt we will beat them in SA if we select the right team.

  • Ricki was brilliant in the first half. I hope those who questioned Adi s selection will admit they were wrong. We also missed Johns leadership wen he went off. Hope its a dry game next wk cos i really believe we can take them.

  • At least matfield had the balls to admit he was Rusty after having played in the french 2nd Div for a season. 🙁

As the commentators said, He was doing NOTHING other than jump in the LO. Bekker should have replaced him.

Hopefull JdV will be the next back-up Captain.

How many times did matfield try and talk to the captain???????? He is F%^&*en Useless as a Captain at any time and useless as a player at the moment. All he is good at at the moment is a jumper.

  • @hellbent (Comment 21) :

Rubbish…Jean missed one tackle…and was fortunate that it never resulted in a try cozz that was a clean break by Nonu…all the other times he kept Nonu behind the advantage line…which takes some doing…even the NZ commentators commented as such…

Adi had a very silent game…but his made our only try which was good enough…and did nothing wrong…

His only problem is he hardly stops the attacking players…not physical at all…but I think it is good enough at this stage…
