Vodacom Western Province coach Allister Coetzee on Wednesday announced two changes to his side for Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup match against Griquas in Kimberley.
www.wprugby.co.za
Hooker Deon Fourie has been promoted to the starting line-up in place of Schalk Brits, who started against the Free State Cheetahs at Newlands on Saturday.
Brits received a call-up from the Springbok camp in New Zealand and will be on the bench for Saturday’s second Tri-Nations test against the All Blacks.
Morgan Newman is the new outside centre in place of Dylan des Fountain, with PJ Vermeulen replacing Newman on the bench. Des Fountain has the flu.
Simon Westraadt comes in for Fourie on the bench and Nico du Plessis replaces Francois van der Merwe as substitute lock.
Coetzee paid Griquas a big compliment by saying he didn’t want to experiment against them. He said the experimentation was done in the pre-season friendly matches.
“Any change to the team should benefit the team. We respect Griquas and it is an away game, so we want to pick our strongest side.”
The coach said he was happy with the team’s standing on the points’ table. They are sharing the first spot with 9 points after three games and two victories.
“We played the three leading provinces now and I am definitely very happy with the way things are going at the moment. If you want to be in contention for play-off places at the end, you have to win your home games and that is what we are doing.
“We spoke about a winning culture earlier this season and I think it is an extention from the Super 14 to the Currie Cup. The players have shown it last week and the previous week. There is a great vibe and a great attitude and team spirit. Attitude will never be a problem in this side.”

is noone else watching it? Boland creamed Namibia, especially in the last few minutes.
who’s Nico du Plessis?
@wpw (Comment 12) : Thanks WPW
As a Wee Pee supporter. How do you assess him?
Nico is a young lock from the under 21s i think.he was part of the super14 training group
@wpw (Comment 13) :
So you have an outside centre playing inside and an inside centre playing outside….
Jinne but you Double U P ouens are agterstevoor…..
Villie
He also kicked at goal for the Emerging Boks.
He looks a very good player. Captained the WP U21 side and is a very good defender.
I rate him as a better player than Corne Uys, Sarel Potgieter and Des Fountain.
Hmmm
At least we’ve got centres.
Cant believe he keep Siegelaar, thought Delport would start.
Was reading that wp craven week team has the tallest and heaviest player-johan schoonbee 2.05m-apparently 0.04m bigger than matfield and ruan smith-126kg
WP craven are dominating the lineouts.
Yep know him very well, also a Gimmie. My girl is also in matrix and they had a BEE job doing painting the kleuterskool in our town. He paint the ceiling, no need for a ladder. His brother played last year lock also Craven week and also a tall guy. Think he plays now for the Boland youth teams.
Sorry manne I posted on the Craven Week thread. Take a look at the WP nr 1 Ruaan Smit. 125 kg of Gimmie meat.
By the way the other WP lock is Niel Hugo the x WP locks son. Hope he follow in the Bekkers footsteps also Paul Roos boytjies.
@wpw (Comment 21) :
I’ll take our inside centre over yours anyday…
But unless Fourie is playing….that is where our centre starts and ends….
@PaarlBok (Comment 22) :
Siegelaar has been good…
Delport was out for very long….will need to prove himself again…
ok – so Francois vd Merwe has gone to Toulon… that explains why the young lock is on the bench.
@Hmmm (Comment 29) : Siegelaar had a shocker vs the BlikOre. You cant afford those at the Groot Gat. Hope Dollie also get a run. Also wants PJ on the field. He had a good one against the Sharks in the Tenk.
OK and WP klapped the Bulle 34-12 at the Craven Week. Not that surprise because Paarl Gim also beat Affies not to long ago.
@PaarlBok (Comment 32) : good
So how has Natal been doing at Carven Week???
@wpw (Comment 34) : just fine, thanks. We beat NOFS yesterday
our flyhalf is a guy called Storm Pearton… now if that isn’t a cool name, I don’t know what is…
Makes him sound like a pornstar
and now look like SWD deal with the Pumas 20-3 at the moment. Two tries in the opening spell. 😯
Tomorow will be the Tjarkies big test.

I did not watch that game….
But what I have seen of him he has been good…very kick to clear…
@PaarlBok (Comment 37) : Konica Minolta Free State? Bliksem… do they line up all the copiers on the side of the field to give the spectators something to sit on?
