Western Province loosehead prop Schalk Ferreira was not seriously injured during the Currie Cup rugby match against Boland here on Saturday.
News 24 reports that Ferreira, whose career had been in doubt after a serious neck injury early this year, was carried off the field on a stretcher after taking a knock against the head.
However, it has been established that he was not as badly injured as WP administrators and supporters feared on Saturday night.
Ferreira won’t be available to play against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday but WP coach Allister Coetzee said on Sunday he would be “all right”.
“It looked more serious than it was. He took a hard knock against the head and he won’t be ready to play this week.”
Team doctor Ryan Kohler said Ferreira had been concussed.
Ferreira has recovered well from the neck injury he suffered in a road accident that nearly ended his career. He resumed playing during the Super 14 competition when he replaced the injured JD Moller in the Stormers team.
Springbok wing Tonderai Chavhanga will undergo more tests today to see whether he has recovered from the concussion that recently interrupted his season

Unless WP ‘invest’ in some decent props they won’t be a force to be reckoned with in CC and S14 rugby.
JD Moller is not a bad player but I’d prefer a guy like Heinke/ Engels or even a guy like Wian Du Preez.
OOh I am sure Heinke and Sephaka are so relieved to hear that Ferreira will not play against them! 🙄
