South Africa’s Director of Referees, Andre Watson, has said he is not totally convinced that the new powers that television referees have, is working the way it should.
After several frustrating incidents in this year’s Currie Cup, including a match between the Blue Bulls and Free State that ran a half hour over the scheduled time because of the constant referrals to the television referee, Watson said the concept shouldn’t be shelved yet, but still has concerns.
“There are still too many things that worry me and we need to get it a lot smoother in the future,” Watson told Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag.
Watson told the newspaper it is still too early to see if the new TMO powers would be implemented worldwide.
“The jury is still out. I don’t think we can say that they have succeeded yet at this stage.”

Sondag? Very original name for a Sunday newspaper. 🙄
Sondag makes the Rapport seem highbrow. 😉
