Western Province have retained Springbok hooker Schalk Brits as eighthman for their match against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday.
News 24 reports that WP coach Allister Coetzee decided at a very late stage last week that Brits would replace eighthman Justin Melck for the Boland clash at Newlands, and the move paid off handsomely.
With flyhalf Peter Grant and prop Brian Mujati away on Springbok duty, Coetzee was forced to recall Willem de Waal and Brok Harris.
Joe Pietersen has deservedly been in the left wing berth after a fine display against Boland last week. Tonderai Chavhanga has returned from a lay-off due to concussion and provide cover for Pietersen on the bench.
There was some uncertainty about Wylie Human’s fitness earlier in the week but he has recovered well and will play on Saturday, against his former team.
Western Province: Gio Aplon, Wylie Human, Dylan des Fountain, Gcobani Bobo (captain), Joe Pietersen, Willem de Waal, Bolla Conradie, Schalk Brits, AJ Venter, Francois Louw, Ross Skeate, Adriaan Fondse, Brok Harris, Deon Fourie and Wicus Blaauw.
Bench: JC Kritzinger, Pieter Louw, Justin Melck, Nick Koster, Dewaldt Duvenhage, Tonderai Chavhanga and Morgan Newman.
