Sprinbok coach Peter de Villiers today named his match 22 for this weekends Tri Nations clash against the Wallabies.
Β
Conrad Jantjies pulls on the number 15 jersey in place of Percy and Jongi Nokwe gets his 2nd Springbok cap coming in for the injured Bryan Habana.
Bizarrely the loose trio remains the same after getting completely and utterly destroyed last week.
TheΒ Springbok teamΒ to face the Wallabies is :
15. Conrad Jantjes
14. JP Pietersen
13. Adrian Jacobs
12. Jean de Villiers
11. Jongikhaya Nokwe
10. Butch James
9. Fourie du Preez
8. Pierre Spies
7. Juan Smith
6. Schalk Burger
5. Victor Matfield (captain)
4. Andries Bekker
3. CJ van der Linde
2. Bismarck du Plessis
1. Tendai Mtawarira
Reserves
16. Adriaan Strauss
17. Brian Mujati
18. Joe van Niekerk
19. Luke Watson
20. Enrico Januarie
21. Francois Steyn
21. Percy Montgomery

Especially for Silver Fox π
If memory serves, after our 49 porky hiding against the Ozzies, we beat them a week later β
And even more bizzarely there is no back up for lock on the bench. π―
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 1) : Thanks dude! Valid point, we can make a comeback.
Juan Smith to cover at lock if needs be.
Damn Victor is Captain again πΏ When will PDV see sense and see that JDV should be captain in John’s absence!
At the same time as he changes his lose (loose i know) trio.
We’re gonna get stuffed
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 4) :
Whoppeee that should make us sleep easier at night.
Is the plot being lost right here in front of our eyes.
Luckily im going up the coast this weekend and will spend a great big chunk of it in a deep state of inebriation.
Im so lucky
I gather Pk is injured
Yep,sore back
I’ll be at Kings Park and Coke Park next week so please Bokke.
Hope the Wheels don’t come off in last 20 mins.
We are gonna win both remaining games — but oops too late.
I’m gonna say the same thing I said last week…
Oh my…this actually looks like a good team…pity about Habana…
There’s a thin line between persistence and insanity…which side are we on??? Only one way to find out.
Good luck Bokke!!! Still hopeful and behind you 100%…now if only I can get my hands on a Test Ticket πΏ ah…it’s only Tuesday…stranger things have happened… π
The Wallabies will face the Boks on the day when they will be blowing 7 different kinds of smoke…so if they are still thinking of the All Blacks game…they are in for a big surprise.
(Pardon me- I’ve just read Dupree’s motivational book)
After reading the squad names, I am speechless
Does anybody have the stats of Vic’s win/loss ratio as captain?
@Die Jood (Comment 15) : Would you feel better if we used the same guys but gave them different names?
Cos I’m sure Sharksworld can arrange that…
@VinChainSaw (Comment 16) : does it count if the team wins while he’s in the sinbin?
@blackshark (Comment 17) :
Sir, I wrote that I am “speechless”.
It means “unable to speak”.
So why are you asking me an answer if I cannot speak?
@robdylan (Comment 18) :
For today’s discussion and purposes – well No, it doesnt count.
@Die Jood (Comment 19) : You have entertained me, Sir, thank you very much.
@Die Jood (Comment 19) :
Cos you can still type, right? π
There seems to be some mistake at 5.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 20) : ok – so I know he lost one as captain last year. Then we beat the All Blacks while he was off the field. Then we’ve lost two more.
So I think he’s on either 25% or 0% depending on how you choose to look at it.
Oh, wait – was he captain against Argentina? I guess he was.
Damn – so make that 40%…
@Sauce (Comment 23) : more like a bloody disaster.
I guess Pete D likes the beard too
Putting Victor Matfield into perspective, heh, heh
He is the only South African captain to have won the Super 14 competition, and that away from his home ground, and he is the only South African captain to have ever won in Dunedin.
The above is fact so therefore he must be the best captain that South Africa has ever produced. π
Hey PJLD!!!!!!!! Are you baiting me?!?!?!?!? πΏ
Why else would you put Matfield in bold? π‘
π
@Salmonoid (Comment 26) : bollocks. The Sharks have won in Dunedin about 6 times now.
Anton Fokin of Uzbekistan won a bronze medal on the mens parallel bars.
@Salmonoid (Comment 26) :
Same thing I said about the S14 win is valid for the Dunedin win.
One player’s moment of brilliance must not be seen as the Captain having and leadership ability. Considering both teams were behind with less than 5 minutes to play.
And Lets not forget that Matfield was not the winning Captain in Dunedin. Jean De Villiers was. Matfield left the field when his team was losing. JdV was captain when they won. JdV was interviewd as the winning captain Not Matfield.
(Pick the appropriate smileys) π
Still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the match. π
@robdylan (Comment 28) :
OK, rephrase that to read “and he is the only captain of a Springbok team to have ever won in Dunedin.
Dont you guys want to cut the Bok coach some slack with his choice of captains. Others might read this as a personal attack on the coach’s abillity to do his job and you know where that arguement normally leads ……
@Dancing Bear (Comment 31) :
HEY!!!!!!!!!!!! You get sorted at work?
@Dancing Bear (Comment 31) : and I forgot to send you the final score. It was a kindness, actually π
@Dancing Bear (Comment 31) :
dont.
I also recorded it and only managed to get to the 60th minute. was also playign online poker at the time which numbed the pain.
It was really too painful to watch.
@Salmonoid (Comment 32) : NO!!!
And it does not need to. π
@VinChainSaw (Comment 35) : You lost a lot???? π―
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 30) :
Sir, I put it to you that the fact that both teams were down with only 5 minutes to play in both matches and still came back to win those mnomentus and historical games attests to the incredible ability of Mr Matfield as a captain, whether he is on the field or along the sidelines.
@Salmonoid (Comment 32) : I like to think that we tend to make our points based on ability, and not on “other attributes”… that said, I still reckon he’s a good coach.
Im sure Im slightly stoned, I was at the dentist and Im sure the local annaesthetic is having an effect on me.
@robdylan (Comment 39) :
But then why does he choose a captain that all here think is the worst ever?
@robdylan (Comment 39) : Rob, let me say once again… this site is incomparable. I have read comments on SB today and are greatfull to be back. No, I don’t want anything!! π
“Well They’ll stone you when you are all alone
They’ll stone you when you are walking home
They’ll stone you and then say they’re all brave
They’ll stone you when you’re send down in your grave
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned”
Ok Im off to buy my lady dentist a big bunch of flowers and book another root canal experience.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 33) : Getting there, slowly.
@robdylan (Comment 34) : crackberry had coverage even in the mountains of western Maryland. Got the score right after I got off the water. π
Also read some of your comments about Ruan. One thing, I don’t think that Jake was the first to move him around, I think that was PdV when he was coaching the U21s. Didn’t PdV select Delport (I think) from WP as captain, and even though Ruan was playing much better at SH, since Delport was captain they had to find a place for Ruan, and PdV played him at FH. Am I wrong here? Long before Jake played him out of position.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 35) : I still can’t bring myself to watch, and that is very unusual for me, haven’t even brought myself to watch All Out Rugby and see high/lowlights!
holy moly!my phone and wordpress are making saxy times.woohoo!
@Salmonoid (Comment 40) :
Okay you saved me having to say it π
@Silver Fox (Comment 42) :
SB?
was wondering the same thing obaas
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 48) : Dat competition site SupaBru. π
for real π―
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 51) : Yes, Ive got that perverse streak in me. But I only read and shake my head. Makes me feel superior.
@Silver Fox (Comment 50) :
Comments on SB?
On the banterboard?
tell them there are such things as blogs about. π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 53) : No, I do not “talk” to them. There are nothing to be gained. It only makes me think.
@Silver Fox (Comment 52) : sometimes i read and claw at my desk other times i read can like to larf depending on where im reading π
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 55) : So if you read at your desk you claw at it and if you read in bed you laugh!?
@Dancing Bear (Comment 45) : you are spot on! PDV played RP at 10!
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 46) : really? I wonder what changed. Apart from moving the site to a different server
@robdylan (Comment 57) : Then Ruan should not be confused now!! π
@Silver Fox (Comment 59) : I think his default state is confused π
@Silver Fox (Comment 54) :
I just didn’t think there was much active discussion on there. π―
Not going to bother looking either π
@robdylan (Comment 57) : It is always a tough call for a national coach. Both Steyn and Pienaar are talented enough that any coach would want them somewhere in the team. Personally I think the best thing for both the Sharks and the South African rugby would be for Ruan to settle at 10 and Steyn at 15. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 61) : active = braindead there, no do not bother!!
@Dancing Bear (Comment 62) : that would definitely be best for the Sharks for next year…
Steyn is particularly suited to 15 with the new laws. With less kicking for touch, more tactical kicks in play, all Steyn has to do at 15 is receive, settle and drop. Would make someone like Carter think twice about clearing down the middle of the field.
@robdylan (Comment 64) : I don’t think there is any doubt that the Bok FH and FB positions are not settled either. That is why I think they may be best for SA Rugby there too.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 66) : plus we have two other very good scrummies, and no flyhalves or fullbacks π
@robdylan (Comment 67) : Exactly!
KSA – how the heck did you end up over 400 posts ahead of me?
@robdylan (Comment 69) : He be working?? π
@robdylan (Comment 69) :
I am present during matches π π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 71) : ah…. you know I can’t multitask! π
Having a good look at this team i am not very concerned for the weekend BTW.
@robdylan (Comment 72) :
I tend to miss half the game becasue i am looking at my PC screen all the time. That is why I try and get Kette to commetnas much as possible π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 74) :
She thinks it’s coz i love having her next to me during the match. π :this is gonna hurt:
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 74) : yeah cos we know how “fast” you type too π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 75) : damn right its gonna hurt you big twit (lucky we’re on SW and I have to keep it clean π ) just wait til you get back THIS side π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 74) : just got to fix the IP or cowboy issue now π π
told you it’d hurt π
Do i HAVE to come home tomorrow night? π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 79) : well hey if you want Abdullah to stay an extra night…. just let me know π
get a room, you two. Or is it you three?
@robdylan (Comment 81) :
Who is the 3rd? π―
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 82) :
oh just saw the Abdullah comment π
@KSA Sharkette (Comment 80) :
Abdullah?
How can he ever replace your own Lourens vanaf Arabia?
@KSA Sharkette (Comment 80) : hang on… who or what exactly is Abdullah? I have a dirty mind that’s running wild here
@Big Fish (Comment 84) :
π
@Big Fish (Comment 84) : I rather enjoy u and the jew…. π
@robdylan (Comment 85) : well now that would be telling wouldn’t it π
……. isn’t the saying “don’t kiss and tell” ?? π π
@Silver Fox (Comment 87) :
You sound like a kinky Palestinian chick. π
@robdylan (Comment 85) :
A figment of her imagination………..Or at least i hope he is
@KSA Sharkette (Comment 88) :
Nah – thats old-school.
The saying is now: “Kiss, make a video, and release it on the internet”. π
Kinky?…hmmm, chick…uhhuumm πΏ , Palestinian…well damn if he does not drag politics in here π
@Big Fish (Comment 84) :
At least it ain’t Blourens vanaf Arabia. I am a SHARK!!!!!!
@Big Fish (Comment 91) : π
π
@Big Fish (Comment 89) :
Hey!!! he may be a Leb.
Do you KNOW who he is ekse? Do you KNOW????????
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 95) :
π π π
We played the same type of rugby we did to loose the first game.
Once we get close to the try line we give the ball away with really, really stupid play. Slow ball coming out of the ruck, driving the ball over twenty guys lying on the ground. We basically give the ball away, instead of just doing the basic things needed to cross the advantage line.
I’m going to kings park for the game, I really hope we get a good game. Our loosies needs to pick up their socks, other teams are just walking over us in this area of the game.
@Letgo (Comment 98) : You reckon
I guess it is pretty obvious, but it seems to be a big problem with most SA teams and we have these great world class loosies.
If the Sharks had worked on this problem they might have progressed to the final of the super14, but the tah’s loosies, Elsom and Waugh had no trouble in spoiling our ball and the sad thing is, this will probably happen again this weekend with the boks.
I don’t know why our coaches doesn’t give more attention to this, since the Sharks started to protect their ball in the CC they’re a different team. It all starts with good clean ball, but it doesn’t seem like it’s clear to our coaches.
@Letgo (Comment 100) :
Yep and they had no trouble poaching our lineout ball, much as happened last weekend as well. And it was not as if the ball was thrown skew or badly. They appeared to have had our number.
Yeah, but I still think we were better on attack, if only we could have kept our composure and finished some of those opportunities our backs created.
Absolutely, we dont seem to have the patience which the All Blacks have. Maybe its not really patience but rather the lack of confidence that if we take it in for a few more phases that we wont cough the ball up or get it turned over.
