Vodacom WP looseforward Schalk Burger will be available for selection ahead of this weekend’s Absa Currie Cup clash against the Valke at Newlands.
Schalk Burger received two yellow cards, the second leading to a red card, in Province’s 35-17 win over the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this past Saturday and faced a disciplinary hearing earlier today.
The news following the hearing is that no further disciplinary action would be taken against Burger and that he would be available to play for his province this weekend.
The Vodacom WP team to face the Valke at 3pm on Saturday will be announced tomorrow.

Yo PB
Yeah man! Thats great news!
Would have been sad if he would stop now. Just start to get back to his old form.
This qoute quite interesting:
“At his disciplinary hearing earlier today, committee chairman Willem Gaum ruled that a player could not be cited for an incident after having been ordered from the field in such circumstances.”
Now what does this mean in plain boeretaal, the circumstances part?
I am not one that like to critizise the ref but surely Bosch was out of his league in this game.
His constant whistle in this game frustrate the [email protected] out of me, specially towards the end and when you look at Lawrense reffing in the other game.
Good stuff.
I bet you its cos Schalk’s dad has loads of wine farms. 🙄
Justice ➡ but only if your name is Schalla and everyone thinks your a legend
@PaarlBok (Comment 3) : A Bosch ❓ 😯
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 7) :
That A Bosch guy is a real ninny.
Good for Schalk. 😀
@McLovin (Comment 9) : All hell will break loose…
Special treatment…had it been any other player he would be recieving a ban..double standards frankly.
I have always felt that any red card, whether a single incident or two yellows, should result in an automatic one week suspension. If the foul deserves greater sanction, it can be handled through citing, but once a red card is given, the player should automatically miss their next game. Just my opinion of course.
I may be wrong, but I think that in a past RWC this was indeed the case, red card meant one missed game.
Ja Ja I woulda been out my league if i reffed that game 😆
And none of this is any comment on Shalla’s cards, I haven’t even seen the game yet, so am in no place to comment.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 12) :
Hey DB
That is the case in many lower leagues BTW and also in the Arabian Gulf.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 14) : Your league being? 😉
@Dancing Bear (Comment 15) :
That is why I am happy for a red to be an auto suspension but not for two yellows. I don’t think the first in this case warranted a yellow and therefore he should really only have been on a yellow.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 16) : I suppose I am a little surprised this is not also the case in the CC. Seems to be a standard action no?
@Dancing Bear (Comment 17) :
My league Then 😎 or my league NOW 😳
@KSA Shark © (Comment 18) : You don’t have much confidence in your fellow refs do ya KSA? 😀 I prefer to think that most refs get it right most of the time, so there may be a rare instance where the yellow was not warranted, but once the yellow was given, whether right or wrong, to commit another yellow card foul is just stupid. And stupidity deserves a one week suspension. 😉
@KSA Shark © (Comment 20) : In your prime old man….Oh wait a minute, I’m older than you…..hehehe sorry about that.
Hey KSA, check out this pic and see if you can figure out which is me.

@Dancing Bear (Comment 21) :
Stupidity DOES deserve a one week suspension at LEAST 😛
@Dancing Bear (Comment 23) :
You’re the one leaning over the rail.
In RSA you get fined for tailgating like that 😉
Cool looking yacht, where were you heading to, looks like it was happening at a leisurely pace?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 24) : So we agree, two yellows=red=automatic suspension. Since the only way to get two yellows is either to commit two yellow card offenses or to be stupid. 😉
@Dancing Bear (Comment 26) : 😛 yip
@Dancing Bear (Comment 22) :
In my prime in SA, 1st Div with the Top Div being the Premiership. Over here there is only one division so………….
Will say this though, in SA we used to officiate 3 times a week sometimes 4.
Wed night match
Friday night Match
Sat morning school
Sat afternoon TJ and Match
Any combo of the above to make up 2,3 or 4 events a week.
Over here we get about one match every 4 – 6 weeks so staying “match fit/sharp” over here is NOT easy.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 25) : 😆 You got me right. This was up in Long Island Sound right by New York City, while Tropical Storm Hanna was hitting on Saturday. 😆 Not much breeze yet. This was a Beneteau 36.7. A friend got this boat after it was run up on the rocks as an insurance total. He rebuilt her and this was her first regatta. He put together a crew of really good sailors that had never sailed together before, and only two had ever been on this type of boat. We ended up finishing 2nd for the regatta, had a blast.
In the picture we were finishing one of our downwind legs with the spinnaker. We had a mark ahead of us to round, and go back upwind. If you notice the boat behind us had already taken their spinnaker down, we carried it a lot longer and extended our lead. It was fun sailing with a bunch of guys that knew what they were doing but had never sailed together.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 28) : That is a lot of running, 4 events in a week.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 29) :
sounds like fun.
Is that a “porthole” on the side?
Brian Mujati is a legend.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 31) : Just a glass pane, does not open on the side. We also had one girl on board:
http://www2.worldpub.net/images/sw/119-larchmontm.jpg
@wpw (Comment 32) : No, the great Eddie Andrews is a legend. Mujati is just a young punk in his shadow!
@Dancing Bear (Comment 30) :
Only on rare occasions though, and it does help to be a ref who never says no, so you get a call on a friday afternoon “such and such can’t get to XYZ this evening or tomorrow, can you go?”
Used to keep a set of kit in my car on Friday’s just incase i had to go straight from work 😎
One of my BIGGEST regrets about not being in SA is the end of that type of fun.
Did u guys notice he didnt get scrummed back once while playing 4 the boks? CJ on the other hand… 🙄
@KSA Shark © (Comment 35) : I suppose if you’re fit, then you can just enjoy it.
@wpw (Comment 32) :
In his ziploc bag maybe.
Just incase you are wondering, A ziploc bag is a step down from Fleck’s lunchbox 😉
Hey DB. And ruan pienaar only performs well in the currie cup
@wpw (Comment 36) : All I noticed is how far forward CJ went over a ruck and into someone’s face with his head. Mujati will never embarrass the Boks like that.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 37) :
And above and beyond all the reffing we would play touch on a Monday before LAw meetings and then i also did road running every sunday morning.
was definitely in my prime BACK then 😉
wow, neither of you gentlemen made any comment about our female crew member…or didn’t you click the link.
@wpw (Comment 39) : nah, Ruan has been superb from time to time in the Super 14 as well as the CC. 😀
And dont get me started on Francois Steyn. He is a poor mans Wynand Olivier
Did you guys see College Rovers klapped Tukkies in the 1/4 Finals of the Club Champs? 25 – 12
By the way Wes, hi, it is nice to see you. Have I done something to upset you to deserve all this stirring and not even a single post saying hello? 😀 😉
@wpw (Comment 44) : No, he is a poor man’s Len Olivier. 😆
@Dancing Bear (Comment 42) :
didn’t even see her.
She had her top on so wasn’t looking at her, was looking at the boat.
Actually had to go have another look to see you weren’t pulling my leg.
Dammit DB!
@Dancing Bear (Comment 47) :
Who is now also a Shark BTW. 😎
@wpw (Comment 49) : Nothing but luv Wes….. 😀
@KSA Shark © (Comment 48) : I gave you a link to a different picture. Same boat, different angle and that is very apparent from the picture. 😆
Howsit DB? Hope u r well. U know me all too well. Wot is ur take on the Beasts performances so far? damn but he is an awesome talent! 😯
Chat later. My turn to burp the little man.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 50) : So I hear…..I have to throw in an I told you so…..I remember talking to Ras about Len Olivier two years ago when I first saw him perform for the Valke. I said then the kid had talent and potential written all over him. He has not developed in the past couple of years, so I hope that this move to the Sharks will aid his development. Still think he has tons of potential.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 52) :
😆 😳 okay going to the 2nd link now didn’t see it 😳
@wpw (Comment 54) :
DUDE YOU AIN’T LITTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉
@Dancing Bear (Comment 52) :
Okay I SEE it now 😯 And i though you sailed for the sea breeze and SEA views. 🙂
@wpw (Comment 53) : Beast has been fantastic Wes, he has such an amazing attitude. Seems to really love everything he does, and works so hard. Any coach would love to have a team of players with his attitude.
Actually quite honestly Mujati did just fine in the last match against Oz. He was very solid in the tight phases, and as you said did not go backwards. I would still like to see more of him in other phases of play as well. He most certainly didn’t embarrass himself or the Boks, and therefore, I now change my view and say he does indeed deserve to be a Bok.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 58) : Gotta love the sea boots dontha? 😆
@Dancing Bear (Comment 55) :
Have you seen many of their games this season? In Particular have you seen their new wing/center Dewald pretorius?
I think he is pretty good and will play S14 soon. if not next year already.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 61) : He has definitely stood out in the games I have watched.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 62) :
Am keen to see if he makes the Bulls S14 squad, if not then surely the Lions could use him.
hey i need to get in the shower, will be back in 20min or so.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 64) : Cheers.
man I am stoked about Rovers.
