Kabamba Floors has been named to start on the wing for the defending champion Vodacom Free State Cheetahs when they face the Sharks in an ABSA Currie Cup match in Durban on Saturday afternoon.
“We’ve been struggling with injuries over the past few days,” said team manager Helgard Muller. “Wilton Pietersen, Fabian Juries and Jongi Nokwe are all injured.”
Zelim Nel writes for SuperRugby that injuries have forced coach Naka Drotske to affect two changes to the team that went down 35-17 against Western Province in Bloemfontein last week, with Floors making his first start on the left wing in place of his former SA Sevens team-mate Juries, and Eddie Fredericks coming in for Pietersen.
“Wilton Pietersen’s injury is very serious, he tore cruciate ligaments in his knee and he probably won’t be back until March next year.”
Still limping from their first home defeat in two years of Currie Cup competition, the Cheetahs must pick themselves up to face the first-placed Sharks in Durban.
“We know we’re in for a big one, especially since we’re still trying to get a team together. But we’re looking forward to it, even though it may be a bit like the Chihuahua taking on a bulldog,” said Muller.
The defending champions find themselves in third place, three points behind the Blue Bulls and just one ahead of the Xerox Lions. The Bulls and Lions are clear favourites to overpower the Kavaliers and Griquas respectively, and the Cheetahs will realise that their failure to beat the Sharks could see them swept aside with just three rounds remaining.
Though it has been said that a wild cat is most dangerous when it’s wounded and cornered.
Cheetahs: 15-Bevin Fortuin, 14-Eddie Fredericks, 13-Robert Ebersohn, 12-Meyer Bosman, 11-Kabamba Floors, 10-Tewis de Bruyn, 9-Neil Powell, 8-Duanne Vermeulen, 7-Juan Smith (capt), 6-Hendro Scholtz, 5-Barend Pieterse, 4-David de Villiers, 3-Kobus Calldo, 2-Adriaan Strauss, 1-Wian du Preez.
Replacements: 16-Richardt Strauss, 17-Coenie Oosthuizen Grey 3, 18-Nico Breedt, 19-Heinrich Brussow, 20-Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 21-JW Jonker, 22-Hendrik Meyer.

Now I really HAVE seen it all.
Odwa is going to eat him like a mielie
He went onto the wing against WP as well.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : You sure dude?
“Though it has been said that a wild cat is most dangerous when it’s wounded and cornered.”
Fook me Zelim Nel but that is shocking journalism.
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 3) : Yeah, I am
Odwa is going to eat him like a mielie
Yeah I’m with you there Rob…will be playing Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” on my way to and from the stadium.
@blackshark – (Well done Serena!) (Comment 6) : tougher than nigerian hair
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 7) : Yeah mon ! 😎
hey guys, i just won a free years participation in the american greecard program. what a cool site.
Kabamba can officially join a group of forwards who are always – lurking on the wing….. Lukieboy, Vic, Skalk Brits, Spies to name a few. 😮
what amazes me is if a person is stupid enough to fall for one of those banners, do you really want to give them a green card?
@try time (Comment 9) : Were you trying to move that box out the way and accidentally opened it. Go to Texas.Them suckers is mighty friendly.
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 3) :
Positive!
And when Odwa is finished eating him, JPP is going to use the cob to wipe his arse.
@try time (Comment 11) :
okay just so you and everybody else knows.
Entry into the green card program (actually called a diversity visa) IS, WAS and always WILL BE FREE.
So PLEASE don’t be one of the suckers who pay some company to do tha application for you.
If you are busy applying and are asked for money at ANY stage then it is not an official USA Gov website.
@try time (Comment 9) :

guys???? there might be more to this then what we realise
remember it doesgive them 4 good loosies on the field
also they benched brussouw which means they have opted for a more power game
i have a feeling kabamba will rotate with one of the backs and itll mean they always have atleast 2 loosies at the break down
@sharks_lover (Comment 16) :
a bit pointless having a wing at the breakdown and his player is unmarked out wide IMO.
ALSO Floors is going to be caught out of position MORE than just once or twice. He has had years of conditioning telling him to clean at the rucks and now he has to stay away from them. He will be caught in no mans land.
as i said i have the feeling he will swom many times into center which will put him close to the rucks all the time
anyhows time will tell
swop
ksa?
you use messenger?? if so lemme know the id if you will be so kind
i wanna ask you a few ??’s if thats ok with you
Kabamba is a sevens player. while not ideal I think he’ll be just fine out wide.
It’s a stop-gap at best but with very little options Naka didnt have much of a choice.
@sharks_lover (Comment 21) :
Use MSN Messenger
[email protected] is my email address for MSN. don’t use the email to send me anything as it doesn’t exist.
I’m sure Kabamba can expect a couple of high balls , and he isn’t the tallest oke around…JPP should beat him in the air…It’s either a stroke of brilliance or it’s gonna backfire badly. The Sharks seem to have a mental problem with the Cheaters , but they really should win this game and win it well. I predict a trashing if we can hold our own in the loose
@VinChainSaw (Comment 22) :
They did say last week already that he would be playing there in the future and he did come on into that spot during the WP match.
So I think they are looking at a long term plan here. will be interesting to see if it works.
thanks ksa boet i have added you to msn
here is the sharks team as i see it being chosen
some news from sharks camp is barritt will not play after the knock he took last weekend
the center combo’s now possible are as follows
steyn adi
steyn murray
adi murray
this depends who plays flyhalf
the most like choice is 12 steyn adi 13 with murray on the bench
sharks team for the weekend as i see it
15 stefan
14 odwa
13 adi
12 steyn
11 jpp
10 michelak
09 ruan
08 kanko / daniel
07 deysel
06 botes
05 muller
04 albert
03 jannie
02 bismark
01 beast
16 skipper
17 carstens
18 sykes
19 kanko / daniel
20 cockott
21 murray
22 swanepoel
@sharks_lover (Comment 27) : decent team, though i would like to start with waylon. one question i have though is when are we going to look at our fly half position. fred is doing brilliantly, but shouldn’t we be giving next years fly half time to get adjusted. the sharks need to hit the ground running next year, and an inexperienced flyhalf will hurt the teams chances.
@sharks_lover (Comment 27) : Nice team Pity about Barrit though
@try time (Comment 28) :
next years flyhalf is still busy play CC for his current province.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 30) : do you think he is going to be the first choice? not frans?
@try time (Comment 31) :
Yes
Frans isn’t a flyhalf. Why try and turn him into one. let’s rather play a flyhalf at flyhalf rather than a center.
@try time (Comment 28) : Let’s rather concentrate on giving the current flyhalf time to win us the CC. 🙂
Plus, as @KSA Shark © has stated in (Comment 30) : our friends are taking care of our other flyhalf 😉
Jacobs will be on the bench, Steyn and Murray are starting
I read that Frans is going to remain at Centre, which is where the SBs want him apparently! So I agree with Sharks_Lover it will be Steyn 12 Adi 13. Adi will start after the season he has had at the SBs I believe he has proved himself.
@robdylan (Comment 34) : how do you know, and is that going to stick or is adi coming off bench because of injury? I think if we carry on using Adi off the bench he will go to WP he has already made noises in that direction.
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 36) : it’s probably part of the whole RESTING thing…
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 36) : From the horse’s mouth. Can only assume it’s cos he’s coming back from a hamstring strain. WP rumours are just agent nonsense
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 36) : No worries, Adi will stay loyal to the Sharks & SA Rugby… 😉
me thinks my team will be the right one 😛
@robdylan (Comment 38) : Seems like more of journo nonsense… 👿
@sharks_lover (Comment 40) : Good luck…
@Charlie (Comment 42) : 😎
Well, Waylon Murray can always move to WP cos we need depth at outside center.
We will bring the best out of him and he will become a regular in the Bok side.
@wpw (Comment 44) : dreamin is good bro it just aint real though lol
murray and adi know steyn is gonna play fly half
so they know they will be in starting line ups next season
its bench for swanepoel whom i rate very highly
@sharks_lover (Comment 45) : i believe WP did enquire last year… or was it in 2006 after he was SA’s best 13 in the S14?
He opted to stay and look where it got him… not even first choice 13 anymore.
Plumtree has even selected the overrated Fransie Steyn ahead of Waylon.
To be fair though it wouldnt surprise me if Adi wanted to return to Cape Town. He is, after all, a born and bred Capetonian… just another poach for the Sharks…
IMO Steyn will never be a Flyhalf.Maybe a 12 if he gets his hands(and his head right) I still think he will be best suited at fullback
@Pokkel (Comment 50) : This debate can go on forever 🙄
Look, form issues aside, Frans is obviously a prodigiously talented rugby player.
And while he has a big boot and has looked good at times in every backline position I just dont feel he is a natural flyhalf such that it makes the best use of his talents.
Also I’m so so gatvol of him having kicks charged down thanks to the massive windup he has on his kicks.
@sharks_lover (Comment 40) : Bet you a hundred bucks it won’t 🙂
@VinChainSaw (Comment 52) : We agree
@robdylan (Comment 53) : Is that a hundred quid or rond??? 😯
@wpw (Comment 47) : that they prolly did, the thing is though he didnt agree lol
@robdylan (Comment 53) :
@VinChainSaw (Comment 49) : No worries, Adi will stay loyal to the Sharks & SA Rugby… Adi has spoken- see post 39
@Pokkel (Comment 51) : …and ever…and ever…
@robdylan (Comment 53) : 😯 Only a hundred?
@sharks_lover (Comment 56) : i know… 👿
@blackshark – (Well done Serena!) (Comment 58) :
Did you not notice the wink in post 39 BS? 😉
@VinChainSaw (Comment 49) : nice dream lol , reallity adi loves the sharks and is said to want to finish his career there 😈
@sharks_lover (Comment 61) :
Have heard a few players say that in the past… 😉
@VinChainSaw (Comment 60) : That was a “super-hero” wink…usually accompanied by the tongue-click…and finger-pistols… 😎
@VinChainSaw (Comment 62) : this is adi we talking about lol
he told us at a braai he will never leave sharks
also said his worst team he played for was the bulls
😀
@sharks_lover (Comment 64) : Suddenly i believe you
hi all – just a Question, while on the subject of flyhalves. i know about Olivier and the Boland “Adi II”, any other rumours flying around of other flyhalves? or any other position for that matter?
@VanWilder (Comment 66) : there’s a persistent rumour about Peter Grant 😉 Also, Duane Vermeluen has yet to actually sign with WP and as far as I know, there’s definitely a Sharks offer on the table.
@VanWilder (Comment 66) :
I heard the Sharks are interested in the services of Eddie Andrews.
@robdylan (Comment 67) : The rumour about Grant moving to the Guppies originated here didn’t it??? 👿
@robdylan (Comment 67) : great! so the hints falling in comments above was actually about peter??
@wpw (Comment 69) : Peter`s still young, i guess the Sharks can help him better his career… its like… a step up, if you know what i mean?? 😉
duanne would be welcome also… we need BEEF in the loosies…
speaking of eddie… is eddie jones still working with the bulls??
@VanWilder (Comment 71) : nope
He is DOR at Saracens. 😳
@wpw (Comment 72) : what was the rumour at the beginning of the super 14 that he would help the bulls this year?? guess the bulls didnt need it? 😀
@wpw (Comment 69) :
It won’t die here though. 😉
Wonder when it will be announced? 😉
@VanWilder (Comment 73) :
He was going to meet with them three times through the S14, i only heard of one meeting though.
@VanWilder (Comment 66) :
Speaking of Lionel Cornelius.
Anyone notice that he isn’t starting for boland this weekend?
I would have hoped that any player who was bought by a big 5 team would easily be good enough to start for his small three team.
This Coenie Oosthuizen on the bench is a Craven week player from last year.
He must be praying that Beast is being rested this week.
Floors to be a permanent wing for the Cheetahs ❗
Only kbamba Floorsie I enjoy is a RedHeart and Coke… 😈
@PJLD(RIP Bernie Mac) (Comment 78) :
Yeah I read that too. This is the death of his career.
They’re basically saying that he isn’t good enough to make the Cheetha backrow on a permanent basis.
Quite sad really.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 80) : yet another player to have “discipline issues”?
@robdylan (Comment 81) :
Also true.
But I dont see Kowabumba being around in a season or two.
Wings are normally young and peak earlier than loosies.
But yeah I think he largely only has himself to blame.
