John Plumtree has rested some of his battle-weary stalwarts, yet still named a formidable line-up to face the Valke in Kempton Park on Saturday.
Starting up-front, Bok discard Deon Carstens will move over to the tighthead side to allow young Pat Cilliers a start at loosehead. Skipper Badenhorst is back in the number 2 jersey, with Jannie du Plessis and Craig Burden providing front-row cover off the bench. Bismarck du Plessis is being rested, while Beast Mtawarira is nursing a groin niggle. Johann Muller and Steven Sykes are the locks, just as they were last week, with big Albert van den Berg on the bench providing second-row cover.
The irrepressible Jacques Botes will be on the bench this week, after starting in virtually every competitive game for the Sharks so far this year. Keegan Daniel moves to the side of the scrum, vacating the number 8 position for the returning Ryan Kankowski, who starts his first Currie Cup game since the home win over the Lions two months ago. There are only four forwards on the bench this week, a sure indication that the Sharks aren’t really anticipating much resistance up-front from the ragtag Valke.
Fred Michalak is another player who will be limited to an impact role this week, with Bok Ruan Pienaar given a run at flyhalf. Rory Kockott comes into the team at number 9 and with two such good scrumhalves in the run-on side, the coaching team has opted to make do without a third scrummie in the squad.
Adrian Jacobs is fit to start at outside centre, with Frans Steyn continuing at number 12. Waylon Murray moves over to the right wing in place of the injured Odwa Ndungane, while JP Pietersen continues on the left. Monty Dumond comes in at fullback for the rested Stefan Terblanche.
Bradley Barritt and Chris Jordaan make a welcome return to the 22 this week and both will provide cover off the bench.

15. Monty Dumond

12. Francois Steyn

At last the speculation ends 😉
man thats a good team
@Pokkel (Comment 1) : damn – I was enjoying myself.
@sharks_lover (Comment 2) : not bad for a “weakened” team, huh? 😉
poor falcons
👿
I really hope the Sharks can take this type of depth into the Super 14 next year. Reading comments on Keo and the likes…the other unions are so jealous of the Sharks depth. It’s really nice that the Sharks can Lose all the Boks and still have a quality side…unlike the WEEPEE
sure is although i must say i am surprised at the full back
i would have gone for jordaan who is a natural full back
although in saying that i watched the club champs and he was not good
his desicion making was poor and so to his kicking
@robdylan (Comment 3) :
12 Steyn, 13 Adi, 21 Barritt ( which option was that?)
Good team…I don’t think our boys will go crazy like WP but we should still grab the BP plus some…
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Suppose it’s better than keeping one eye on the World Markets like I have to. 😯
@Pokkel (Comment 8) : you poor sod. Have you become an alcoholic yet? 😉
@robdylan (Comment 9) : Can’t afford it..I get fees the value of the investments that I do and they are worth a lot less now.
@robdylan (Comment 9) : Luckily not that bad. I managed to move most of my client to cash before the worst of the trouble began. Acually waiting for the bottom so I can start buying shares again 😆
eish rob i see on super bru you got the sharks by 85???
@Pokkel (Comment 11) : this is a long-held theory of mine. If you have good fundamentals, you saw this one coming and won’t lose the farm. How long do you think before we start to see a recovery?
@sharks_lover (Comment 12) : correct. The Valke team is full of club players.
We could score 100
but we playing our so called weak team
😆
So they moved to Kempton already?
@walter van transvaal.co.za (Comment 16) : apparently
@sharks_lover (Comment 12) : i forgot i was playing superbru currie cup
@PJLD (Comment 18) : 😯
ek gaan daai capie adi se hy moet 4 driee druk saterdag 😆
and good day old chap 😀
@robdylan (Comment 14) : If we do not score 100 I will question the commitment and….
@robdylan (Comment 13) : Thats the Million dollar question. Fundamentally our(SA) Shares are reasonably valued I think , but all the bad news from America is causing bad sentiment and causing panic all over the world. I read this aricle this morning which really scared me. http://www.moneyweb.co.za/mw/view/mw/en/page94?oid=225773&sn=Detail
If I knew the exact time I would have a big box at Kingspark and would never work again. Only time will tell 🙄
@sharks_lover (Comment 19) : ahoy brudda
@Pokkel (Comment 22) : And I would invite all the regular Sharksworld blogger’s to join me every weekend. 😆
@Silver Fox (Comment 20) : there will be no need
@Pokkel (Comment 24) : 😀 that would be awesome…
@sharks_lover (Comment 21) : Nah, then I’ll give them a break.
@Silver Fox (Comment 20) : @sharks_lover (Comment 21) :
The Sharks just have to take 5 points from this one…
Big final score’s are just a side show… 😉
@Charlie (Comment 28) : true… 5,4,5… those are the only numbers the Sharks need to think about.
Then, after that, they need to win their next two games by at least 1 point 😉
@Pokkel (Comment 8) :
Shorter’s paradise 😉
@robdylan (Comment 13) :
Quite the contrary… if you had good technicals you’d have sold up some time ago…
@Pokkel (Comment 24) :
And on the Sunday can we also climb into your chopper for a short trip to your Berg hideaway to be in time for the early morning rise. Pleaseeee.
Eeish I feel embarr assed about my low score of 42 for Sharks.
@Salmonoid (Comment 32) :In my trophy dam with 4kg+ brown’s and rainbow’s for breakfast 😎
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 31) : so where are you keeping it all? In readies under the mattress?
@Salmonoid (Comment 32) : I’m never gonna get there if I talk kak to you okes all day and don’t start working 😯
@Charlie (Comment 28) : @robdylan (Comment 29) : Demolish them I say!!! If you practise, you do it full out. 🙂
OR you can say a win is a win is…. 🙄
@robdylan (Comment 35) : Gee, you sure your mattress big enuff?? 😯
Good team, lets hope its a warm night in brakpan!
Lucky me…One of my investment client popping in at 14:30 . Luckily only down 2.5% since I last saw him in May. Should be bloody thankfull I say under the circumstances 🙄
@Pokkel (Comment 34) :
“I like dreaming……”
@billy (Comment 39) : why? We’re playing in Kempton Park 😉
@robdylan (Comment 35) :
Lol… it would be tempting to hoard physical gold/silver under the shed…
I’ve been predominantly trading futures (SPI, FSTE, DAX) since November last year with the few equities left protected with ‘put options’ and the rest @ 8.5% cash…
Anyone expecting a few red cards in this game… are the Valke as roff as some of the clubs around the area (some classic youtube footage)?
@Pokkel (Comment 40) :
Sounds almost impossible 😯
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 43) : I doubt it, to be honest. I reckon they’ll just be like rabbits in the headlights for this one.
THAT SAID, I reckon Tyson Jenneker might fancy a pop at one or two of his old mates…
@robdylan (Comment 45) :
Have you seen this guy (also ex Sharks academy) play at all… about the same stats as Kanko?

@bryce_in_oz (Comment 46) : no – never seen him play. Was very keen to and if you check out the article I did on loose forwards before the Currie Cup started, I mentioned him as one to look out for.
I’ve heard that he lacks bulk in the lower body…
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 44) : I switched his portfolio completely out of resource stocks just before resources started to fall and into some financials and industrials and some offshore cash. The offshore cash saved me because the rands devalued a lot in the last 2 weeks. He also holds about 35% local cash which helped a lot. Prior to the last week the financial and industrial shares did quite well and resources went to hell.Anyway he is not upset(probably expected worse) 😉
@Pokkel (Comment 48) : Well played…
@Pokkel (Comment 48) :
Financials, Resources you name it have wiped out billions off the superannuation of Aussie’s about to retire… and I’ve seen hundreds of full-time investors on my stock forum having to go back to work…
Good DJIA open… but it’s bed time… 😉
@robdylan (Comment 47) : Thats sounds so wrong, so so wrong 🙄
@PJLD (Comment 51) : was waiting for someone to spot that
@robdylan (Comment 47) :
ROTFLMAO… Robs been in the Sharks locker-rooms again!
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 53) : Eish……Rob might want to edit that post of his. 😆
How about editing this whole thread cos the bit about financials makes my head spin. 😆
You guys have dirty minds. I’m so proud 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 56) : Nah, if I had a dirty mind, I would have responded with something like: “Then I don’t suppose you will be stalking him like you did Brad Barritt.”
@Dancing Bear (Comment 57) : ice cold!
@robdylan (Comment 58) : I was just sayin’! 😆 I never would say anything like that Rob, unless I had a dirty mind. 😀
@Dancing Bear (Comment 59) : sure, sure 😉
Breaking news is that Deon Carstens is out with a minor calf injury
