The Valke have named their squad to take on the Cheetahs in their final home game of the season. Frank Wagenstroom and Thabo Mamojele, both on loan from the Sharks, have been named in the starting 15 for the first time.
Wagenstroom will start on the left wing this week, forming a powerful looking back three with Johan Jackson and Dewald Potgieter. Jackson and Potgieter are both contracted to the Bulls and also only representing the Valke on a loan basis, making one wonder exactly what the East Rand union actually achieves out of playing virtually an entire team of mercenaries from richer unions. Franco Booysen starts his first game at inside centre with stalwart Rouan Cloete outside him. Regular skipper Hanno Coetzee is at flyhalf this week, with Gerrie Odendaal his scrumhalf partner. Odendaal will join the regular post-season exodus from the Valke ranks as he has managed to secure a contract with the Cheetahs for next year.
Mamojele will start at eighthman this week, with the promising Daan van Coller on the blindside of the scrum. Uwe Sauer, one of the most consistent Valke players this season will continue at openside, where he cause the Sharks pack quite a few hassles last weekend. Nico Luus continues at lock; the veteran having turned in a masterful display in the set pieces in his first game back from retirement last week. Former Shark (and current Bull) Wouter Moore will partner Luus in the second row.
Jody Jenneker is again at hooker, with young props Zane Killian and Dewald “Snoepie” Coetzee packing down at loose and tighthead respectively. The fifth member of the ex-Sharks contingent is journeyman prop Gavin Whittingham, who will wear hte number 17 jersey this week.
The Valke will have their work cut out for them against a Cheetahs outfit whose stated objective is to win by at least 50 points this week.
Valke team:
15 Johan Jackson; 14 Dewald Pretorius, 13 Rouan Cloete, 12 Franco Booysen, 11 Frank Wagenstroom; 10 Hanno Coetzee (capt) 9 Gerrie Odendaal; 8 Thabo Mamojele, 7 Daan-Roux van Coller, 6 Uwe Sauer, 5 Nico Luus, 4 Wouter Moore, 3 Dewald Coetzee, 2 Jody Jeneker, 1 Zane Killian.

me and my Valke obsession 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 1) : rob this loan of players to me is a good thing as the game time will be great experience for them
if i remember correctly the cheetahs to the same with NFS
@sharks_lover (Comment 2) : sure – I just don’t see how it benefits the Valke…
Afternoon all you ‘sardines’, howzit hanging?
Anybody knows what happened with Percy, why isn’t he on the bench for WP?
@Pietman (Comment 4) :
Ok, sorry, I see you reported on it earlier and that he is sick.
@Pietman (Comment 4) :
Not sure, Maybe he can’t swim. 😉
Afternoon? Are you outside of SA as well?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 6) :
Yip, S-Korea, for 7 years now. Came out here on a short-term contract initially, then went on my own.
I am beginning to wonder if I shouldn’t live in both SA/Korea, difficult to give up either of them.
But the money is here, unfortunately.
You in the Middle East, no?
@Pietman (Comment 7) : Hallo Pietman, farmer from Kraaifontein…
Hallo KSA 🙂
@Pietman (Comment 7) :
Yeah Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) Am fortunate enough to have the best of both worlds. Stll have my House in RSA and get to go home twice a year most years.
@Charlie (Comment 8) :
Jy in CFR ?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 10) :
That’s the way to do it!
I sold my house in SA, but still have a building plot down at Kleinbaai (Hermanus area, near Gansbaai), so we will be going over soon hopefully to start putting up a holiday shack of sorts.
I also would like to go home every six months from now on, I miss SA too much.
@Charlie (Comment 9) : Hoesit mase kind
@Charlie (Comment 9) :
Hey Ad….Charlie 😀
It is ridiculous that a team that is in what is supposed the Premier Division has to try survive on player surpluses from the bigger unions….strength vs strength….reduce the Premier Division to 6 teams.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 13) :
Waar is jy, Kraaifontein se wereld ?
@Pietman (Comment 15) :
Sorry, that one was meant for Charlie…
@Dive Pass (Comment 14) : you’re preaching to the choir, mate 😉
@Dive Pass (Comment 14) :
@robdylan (Comment 17) :
And strangely enough a recent News24 poll had an OVERWHELMING result for the CC to stay with the same format. 👿
@KSA Shark © (Comment 18) :
Okay Sorry not as overwhelming as I heard it was. Am amazed at the LACK of call for change though 😯
If you were in charge of the Currie Cup next year, how would you structure it?
29% Leave it exactly as is
29% Leave as is but start it after the Tri-Nations
8% Play only the top 5 unions in the Premier league
27% Play only the top 5 unions AND start it after the Tri-Nations
7% Scrap it – there is too much rugby
7% Scrap it – there is too much rugby – BLAH!
27% Play only the top 5 unions AND start it after the Tri-Nations
Yeah that is what I would vote for. That way we can have the CC final around Christmas time and it will open up other options for presents.
@Pietman (Comment 11) : Jip, maar dis nou CF 😀
@Charlie (Comment 22) :
@Pietman (Comment 23) :
Kuilsrivier, dikwels teen die Kraaie gespeel.
Adi Jacobs was daar op skool, Scottsdene as ek reg onthou.
Ou Desmond wat hier saam met my werk het lank daar skoolgehou, ons is 4 Kaapenaars hier op die personeel, almal uit daai area, Brackenfell/Kuilsrivier/Kraaifontein.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 21) : was there not an option to scrap the tri-nations?
@robdylan (Comment 25) : 😆 There’s some article in The Times about why it’s a good idea to have the minnows in the CC. I can’t find it on the net though. 🙁
Howzit…
You boys only have to target Earl Rose, rattle him and the game is yours.
I have the Sharks by 12.
@Pietman (Comment 27) :
Not going to be enough of a margin i fear 😉
@robdylan (Comment 1) :
Dont know why but whats the change for the Valke to upset the Cheetahs?
@PaarlBok (Comment 29) :
Very little I think.
@PaarlBok (Comment 29) : ain’t gonna happen… Valke don’t know how to win anymore
