Boland Cavaliers wing and Springbok Sevens star, Danwel Demas, will turn out for the Cheetahs next season.
Sport 24 reports that this was confirmed by Boland team manager, Denver Pienaar.
“He already signed the contract.
“Yes, it is bad news for us. But what could we do?” Pienaar asked.
Demas’s departure is big blow for Boland as he and Deon Scholtz were earmarked to become a potent wing combination next year.
Meanwhile, Boland’s exodus to the Free State Cheetahs continues.
It all started two seasons ago when Boland head coach Hawies Fourie became the Cheetahs’ backline coach.
After that, several Bolanders followed him to Bloemfontein, including fullback Hennie Daniller, scrumhalf Tewis de Bruyn, wing Jongi Nokwe and lock David de Villiers.
Recently Boland also lost tighthead prop, Jean Botha, to the Cheetahs. He will join the Free State team after the promotion/relegation matches.
And after Boland’s gutsy performance against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday, more Cavaliers could get a Bloemfontein call-up.

So now that Boland have become the Cheetah “B” side, does that make Boland the Shark “C” side?
Demas needs to work on his hands to become a better player…like Benjamin at the Lions
Thought demas was still a Bull and only on loan to Boland? Who cares, anyway… Pretty limited player
demas is a union slut. he rolls over for any union that offers cash. no loyalty here.
@try time (Comment 4) : Welcome to the professional era… 😆
@try time (Comment 4) :
Sorry to say it, but thats a stupid thing to say – this is his livelihood; nobody can blame a player for trying to make as much as he can in a brief rugby career.
@Big Fish (Norman Jordaan is a LEGEND) (Comment 6) : yes but fans like to see some loyalty from their players. i felt the same about players like james small, snyman etc. i don’t mind changing because you aren’t getting game time, but chasing money irks me. i know it is a professional era and thats what happens, doesn’t mean i have to like it.
@try time (Comment 7) :
Fair enough, and I agree with you to an extent.
