Strong-running Valke back Ernie Kruger has joined the Boland Kavaliers.
SAPA reports that Boland team manager Denver Pienaar said the Kavaliers are delighted to have such a valuable player in their ranks.
Kruger could come in handy after expierenced Boland centre Piet van Zyl joined the Cheetahs for their Super 14 campaign.
Kruger was one of a few stars in last year’s Valke team. Boland coach Deon Davids has decided to give all his players game time before he sits down to select his side to face the Stormers in a friendly match at Wellington on January 31.
As Kruger was not selected for next Wednesday’s friendly against the University of Cape Town at Wellington, he is almost sure to make his Boland debut when they face the touring English Premier side club Saracens on January 28.
Boland have also gained the services of Pumas flanker Andre du Toit, who represented the Kavaliers at Under 21 level.
Young Cheetahs and Griffons tighthead prop Tros Botha is currently training with Boland and will start on the bench for the match against the Ikeys.
Davids has also confirmed that he is trying to lure another young tighthead prop, Ivan Espag, to Wellington.
Espag is the son of former powerhouse Jaco Espag and has played Under 21 rugby for the Blue Bulls.
