The South African Rugby Union has named a squad of 30 players for the SA Under -20 tour to South America from 16 February – 1 March 2009.
www.sarugby.net.
The three-match tour includes two matches against Argentina and also a clash against Uruguay. According to SA U20 coach Eric Sauls, the tour will serve as a final trial and training camp before the selection of the official team that will represent South Africa at the IRB World Junior Championship later this year in Japan.
Sauls added that players who perform well during the FNB Varsity Cup, the Vodacom Cup and Vodacom Super 14 competitions will also be considered for final selection. The touring squad was selected after the recent trials (18 – 25 January) at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria. lots of Bulls, as always. Oomphile Seabela is a Boys High boy…
Good to see some KZN lads in there…
Tim Dlulane: Logistics Manager (Blue Bulls) 😛
A real shame he had to retire from playing rugga.
@wpw (Comment 2) : ah – I missed that.
Bad luck, Timbo…
Good to seee the Gimmies Rossouw de Klerk & midfielders Nicolas Hanekom (Stokkies son) & Johan Sadie and Hartzenberg the Boishaaier in there.
full baby Shark front row, there. Looks like Durban dominates the fatty ranks these days
@robdylan (Comment 5) :
And a Westville boy in there…
No Koster?
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 6) :
I don’t think the SA u/20’s have a hope in hell of getting a player to be released from the S14 to play for them.
In that light, I am surprised to see Ross Cronje in there.
Kockott then ?
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 8) :
I don’t understand? 🙂
Sharks no9’s if Ross is playing U20’s… Kockott and ?
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 10) : charl mcleod
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 10) :
Ahhhhhhhh now I get what you mean.
These guys will be out for at least the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the S14. 16 Feb to 1 March.
Our 3rd round is the 1st of our tour games in NZ.
They Junior RWC will not affect them as it is from June 5 – 21.
The question is who will stand in? I suspect Rob is correct. i HOPE rob is correct, coz I don’t want RP and Steyn moving one position closer to the scrum each.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 12) :
More than likely going to happen on a few occasions with 9,10,12,13…
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 13) :
unfortunately I think you are right. We should borrow JP Joubert for a match or two.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 14) :
Surely you jest… he is hond kak… I’m still astounded the Bulls gave him a contract…
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 15) :
As a back-up for two games he will do fine. Ruan Pienaar is a more than able replacement for Kockott, but that would mean Steyn has to go to 10. And Heaven forbid that happens.
Joubert is actually not in the Bulls squad and that is why I mentioned him. 🙂 There are a few others i would prefer but none are available for a a 2 or 3 week stint.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 16) : Stentjie has been quite effective as a late replacement at flyhalf. Whenever he starts at 10 he seems to have problems, but when moving to 10 late in the game, he tends to run the opposition ragged. Also, if you really have such a problem with Steyn covering 10 if Ruan covers 9, remember that Adi has played at flyhalf before, and is a very able stand in late in the game.
ANOTHER Saffer just scored ANOTHER international century against Australia this summer! This time in an ODI. 😎
@Dancing Bear (Comment 17) :
I disagree slightly. Steyn has had some shockers coming on later under pressure. I recall more than one charge down either costing us points or putting us under HUGE pressure as a result of Steyn being brought in late and not being in the game mentaly yet.
Having said that if he does move to 10 from 12 during a game it could be different.
Don’t get me wrong here BTW. I think Steyn is on a par if not better than JdV at 12 and I rate him very highly but just not as a 10.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 19) : He sucks at 10. 12 is his pos and that’s it! 👿
52 needed off 6 overs. Saffer is still at the crease. Come on Blackcaps!
🙁 The Saffer is out for 115. SR of 92.
Damn. The Aussies finally won one. 👿
@klempie (Comment 23) :
even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. 😛
@Dancing Bear (Comment 17) : Riaan Swanepoel is also a capable flyhalf
Rob, did u see Liverpool’s courageous fightback last night?
@robdylan (Comment 25) :
Look he is a good player…but flyhalf…
That is as far fetched as saying Andre will last every minute of S14 rugby in 2009…
@Hmmm (Comment 27) : go do your homework, then we can talk
@robdylan (Comment 28) :
Hey…not dissing the guy…I was the first one to praise him as a player in last years CC…but as a flyhalf in S14? Come-on!??!
@klempie (Comment 20) : I still think that fullback is Steyn’s best position. Can take a little longer getting off his kicks, and with his speed and strength hitting the line, will be awesome, and best of all, any team will have to think twice about kicking to Steyn anywhere within 60 metres of their goal. Hell, even drop outs will be nerve wracking for the opposition, Steyn receives, runs 20 metres and snaps a drop from 60 metres out. I think this really limits the oppositions choices.
OK so the tour has gone and the next appointment is a practise camp on Saldanha from 2-8April

Quiet a few Paarl laaities in there.
The two previous Gimmie capts included: Rossouw de Klerk (2007) & Louis Schreuder (2008)
Where do our fatties go?
Well Rossouw de Klerk (he is ear mark around here is a future Bok Capt) playing for the Brutes & Jan Andre Marais for the Sharks. These two fatties played each other in the 2007 interschools. Marais I know well , his dad a work collegea, played LH for Boishaai and Rossouw TH for Gimmies and also our capt.
Nicolas Hanekom is Stokkies Hanekom son and a Gimmie
Johann Sadie also a Gimmie played in the Varsity Cup final for Maties, Zaza Hartzenberg a Boishaaier and also in WP Vodacom Cup and Louis Schreuder a Gimmie and capt of our team last year. Louis mum giving match for my small kid at KleinGim en ‘n kwaai tannie, sy vattie kakie.
Go YAYA Hartzenberg!!!
A future Springbok in the making!!! ❗ 😎
@wpw (Comment 32) : Have the potential if he get his fat arse in doing the hard yards. 😉
@PaarlBok (Comment 31) : nee wat boeta… Jan Andre Marais is a lock, not a prop…
@wpw (Comment 2) : Agreed. He was looking like a classic.
Josias Ebersohn…Related to Rob?
@robdylan (Comment 34) : Sorry my mistake, thought it was the Boishaaier fatty. 😳
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 35) : yes – Sias Ebersohn is Rob’s brother
@PaarlBok (Comment 36) : nah – this oke went to school at Welkom Gimnasium
@robdylan (Comment 37) : twin brother
ok, so how cool would his be… a backline containing Guy Cronje at 9, Ross Cronje at 10, Akona Ndungane at 11, Sias Ebersohn at 12, Rob Ebersohn at 13, Odwa Ndungange at 14… and whoever at 15.
@PaarlBok (Comment 36) : Isnt that the dude playing VC at the moment?Speaking of which, dude your Bolanders reallt played dead in the first half last week.
Was a cool game in Athlone though, good few thousand people turned up instead of the usual 100 or so that would have been at Newlands.
@Claytie (Comment 41) :
Nope dont know the WP Vodacom fatties, only Lourens Adriaanse that played in the Varsity Cup final for Maties. Our young stock all playing for the Cheetahs and sitting on the bench.
Havent watch WP but saw now the two Boishaaiers Conrad Hoffman & Terry Jacobs havent played due to dissiplanry problems. Vokket man that could have gave Jacobs in stead of Oupa Wylie a change in the Stormers jersey. 😈
@PaarlBok (Comment 42) : Hoffman’s pretty good… didn’t he play some Currie Cup last year?
oh and by the way Schreuder is also a scrummy , so we have Duvenhage, Conrad & Louis as good scrummies .
@robdylan (Comment 43) : Ja he did, he played a game S14 also think against the Force last year as substitute. He got injured and Duvenhage overtook him.
@robdylan (Comment 43) :
He was on fire in the CC the year before (when the Boks were not really involved)
I rate him as our second best scrumhalf here in CT.
Bolla se gat!!! 😕
Ja Bolla playing kak and altho Januarie aint that bad, both of them diont have the pass or the boot Duvenhage, Conrad or Louis have. All three some real talents. Dont know what happen to Marnus Hugo but he is also a great scrummie. Think he is still playing cricket for Boland.
To go back to fatties a bloody shame we lost Rossouw de Klerk to the Brutes. Lourens Adriaanse playing for Maties sure show his power against a strong Pukke outfit but the problem is that he is a BRek student and difficult to play rugby and study at the same time. Luckily WP has contracted him. I was hoping Carlo prinsloo a x Gimmie strong as ox fatty would have gone through but he likes rugby as a jol and now playing for Hammies.
@PaarlBok (Comment 42) : Dude didn’t Terry go to Wynberg Boys??
@Claytie (Comment 49) : Nay he is a new generation Boishaaier. Those ones still learning to win.

Sure he is one of those Boishaai bought from Prymary School. Nowadays the hook up all the souties from the northern suburbs daily by transport. But it still dont help, maybe next year. Talking to Rob Louw, he hate Boishaai doing this making the Soutie schools weaker in Slaapstad.
But after Teusday maybe I should shutup because Bishops beat Gimmies 5-0 in a 40 minute game on Newlands. Maybe our lot will dip this year. You cant stay on top for this long as we are at the moment.
@PaarlBok (Comment 51) : Lol we were looking for you the other day boet ❗ Terry is quick and talented but he is a little small.Also he cant tackle, really he cant.
Cool oke but can believe too much of his own press at times.
@Claytie (Comment 52) : I know some guys like that 🙂
@Claytie (Comment 52) : Ja man daai blerrie Gal Pille. Tipies. If you want to go to the top, its hard and dedicated work and you need a cool head and feet on the ground.
@PaarlBok (Comment 54) : eh?
Gal Pille = Boishaai, Bloedworse = Gimmies (the good guys)
This has to be the smallest pack (and squad) we have ever sent over…
@bryce_in_oz (Comment 57) : Think they not done yet. Still some cutting to do.
some good KZN beef in the front row
