Paul Treu, coach of the Springbok Sevens team, on Monday released star back Robert Ebersohn to join the South African Under-20 team as they prepare to depart for Japan for the International Rugby Board’s Junior World Championship.
Rugby 365 reports that Ebersohn, who was the SA Young Player of the Year in 2008, has been named as captain of the SA Under-20 team, coached by Eric Sauls.
“We felt it would be better for Robert to join up with the Under-20s. They gather in Johannesburg on Thursday for their final preparation and capping ceremony before the tournament in Japan,” said Treu.
“We need one more point to clinch the IRB’s World Sevens Series for 2008/09 and I believe we have the players to do that.
“Paul Delport is still with us from last week and Marius Schoeman has also arrived.
“We will make a final call on the squad of 12 to play in Edinburgh this weekend at a later stage this week.”

Is Ebersohn contracted to the Cheetahs???
This guy is a SERIOUSLY talented player… if the Sharks knew what was good for them they would do everything possible to sign him.
I’d rather have him in my side than Frans Steyn. 😯
@wpw (Comment 1) :
I think not, but just as we (The Sharks) like to refer to Stick as a Shark, the cheetahs will continue to refer to him as one of theirs.
When i spoke to the Physio in Dubai last year he was saying that Ebersohn felt he was not ready for senior 15-a-side rugby yet and that he had taken many hard knocks in the previous Currie cup and therefore had decided to not contract to a union for the S14 but to the 7s Boks.
@wpw (Comment 1) : you are really starting to sound like a shark supporter, come on, admit it. You love the Sharks 😀
@JarsonX (Comment 3) :
You want me to delete your comment now or later???
@KSA Shark © (Comment 2) :
sounds like a wuss to me!! 🙄
@wpw (Comment 4) : u may but i’ll keep on posting it 😆 later, i got to get to work.
@JarsonX (Comment 6) :

@wpw (Comment 1) : He is contracted to the SA Sevens side. This year SA rugby accepted Trues request for a centralised sevens side as every year they lost key players to Super 14, looks like it has worked as they are on the brink of winning the tournament. Good on True for releasing Ebersohn, he did not have to.
Seems as if Treu is a really true guy.
@Salmonoid (Comment 9) :
That is so true.
@wpw (Comment 10) : I see that. 😆
