Free State open side flanker Heinrich Brüssow has been called up to the Bok squad as cover for the injured Schalk Burger. Burger has been battling a calf injury for some time and remains doubtful for the first test.

Brüssow, who made his test début for the Boks last year, was considered incredibly unlucky to miss out on initial selection to the squad and made a mockery of that decision when he almost single-handedly destroyed the Lions loose trio at the breakdown , when playing against them for the Cheetahs 10 days ago.

The Bok team for the first test will be announced alter today. Expect Burger’s name to appear next to the number 6, but don’t be too surprised if it is in fact the young Free Stater who ends up taking the field.

  • He won’t weaken the side, just worried my dear friend Bryce, may have a different interpretation of his offside line to the one Barnes, had against Free State. I watched the province game again last night, it was not the ophthalmologist’s best refereeing performance, I have seen better games from Mark Lawrence!!
