If media reports are to be believed, Argentinean international flyhalf Juan Martin Hernández arrived in Durban on Saturday.
The arrival of the South American matchwinner has been on hold pending legal an logistical issues, but these hurdles have now all been cleared and “the wizard”, as he is known, will attend his first Sharks practice on Monday. Coach John Plumtree will no doubt hand Hernández his first cap against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday, but the fact that he’ll take part in at most three practices before that outing would make it somewhat risky to throw him into the deep end at flyhalf.
Plumtree will have some other options, of course, with both Guy Cronjé and Monty Dumond available to play pivot. Both were very impressive against Boland and the Blue Bulls respectively.
It’s going to be an interesting week at the Shark Tank, that’s for sure. As always, we’ll keep you posted as the events unfold.

He wasn’t bad but my take on the game was that the bulls without their springboks were even worse than sharks without theirs.

as the official chairman of the “stefan hate brigade”, i am demanding a recess for two weeks. stefan is starting to show the magic he offered early in last years cc. it looks like the guy follows orders to the tee, because it is strange how suddenly he has found form with ball in hand. as i said after that bulls sharks s14 game, it looks like the kick-it-at-all-costs gameplan was plums idea, again how long does it take plum to realise problems. i like the new stefan. even his captaincy skills are exemplary. again plum has been shown up with his insistance of keeping muller the captain. johan is a great player but a shit captain. lets see how long it takes plum to realise this.
as for rory i was still a little irritated that he still tries to win games by himself. he needs to give the backline more ball. he is very predictable and teams are learning that you don’t need defenders out wide against the sharks cos rory is going to run around the fringes and not pass.
in saying that, the precious little ball monty got he had a decent game. he still may not be s14 class, but if he can improve on this performance he could be a solid backup come injuries.
mvovo is another player i feel plum has under estimated. eventhough zuks is bigger, mvovo seems to offer more heart. his defence is good and he puts in a good work rate eventhough he gets very little from the players inside him.
Bladdy well done Monty Dumond. From “worst player in the world” to key player against the Bulls. Flippin suprised.

I thibk he might gi inside, guy fly swannie outside. But el mago will ove to fly when murray comes back. To be honest i would prefer hernandez over ruan at fly anyday.

I mean, 3 weeks ago we were all tearing our hair out at the thought that we had to play this raw 19-year-old at flyhalf and now we’re talking about shifting Hernandez away from his preferred position to accommodate Cronje. Did guy REALLY do that well against (pathetic) Boland to warrant that?
If anyone needs to sit out at this stage, I think it’s Guy. He’s young and he’s done well to get into the 22 at all. Leave him on the bench and bring him on, at flyhalf, for the last 20. We’ll move Hernandez to 12 when that happens.
