Two of the Cheetahs’ most promising youngsters, prop Coenie Oosthuizen and centre Robert Ebersohn have both signed long-term deals with the Free State Rugby Union.
The pair have received numerous offers from other unions and their signing is a major boost for the Cheetahs who in the past have seen the back of many up-and-coming youngsters.
Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske’s policy of giving young players the chance to play appears to have been the key factors in persuading the duo to stay in Bloemfontein.
Drotske admitted that Oosthuizen’s decision to remain with the Cheetah means that he will soon consider playing four props in his matchday 22 .
“Against the Leopards Coenie aggressively cleared the rucks 32 times,” Drotske told Volksblad.
“He also handled the ball more than any of the players and his scrumming was excellent.
“With Os du Randt in the camp and the fact that other teams’ defensive lines are so good you need strong and big players to take you over the advantage line. A prop factor is therefore a possibility.”

Bad news for the Sharks.
Ebersohn would have been a good replacement for Frans Verstaan. 😕
long-term deals? How long?
@wpw (Comment 1) : maybe if you stood the one on top of the other.
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!! I woulda liked it if he came to Dbn. 🙁
@McLovin (Comment 2) :
At the Cheetahs, a season feels like a million years when you perform as well as they do. 😛
@KSA Shark © (Comment 4) : @robdylan (Comment 3) : To be fair to Ebersohn…how much game time would he get with the Sharks once Adi, Ruan, Hernandez back. Then he still has to prove he’s better than Swanepoel, Murray, the twins??
@Pokkel (Comment 6) :
JUST GET HEINRICH!!!! I’ll be gappy!
@Pokkel (Comment 6) : and Lambie
That prop was nearly the Sharks undoing when they played FS. He was bloody good, outstanding ball-carrier.
@robdylan (Comment 8) : Lambie also kicks better!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 5) : I heard they only signed for one year. So you are just about spot on.
@McLovin (Comment 11) : bwaaaaa
