Province rubbish Du Plessis rumours

Seems Gavin Rich has been smoking his socks again – or maybe, as always, he’s just so much better connected than the rest of us are that he knows things that nobody else does!

Rich wrote in an article on SuperRugby this morning that Western Province were poised to swoop on Sharks front-row duo, Jannie and Bismarck du Plessis. In the same article, he mentioned how impressive Wiehahn Herbst had been against the Lions, which is pretty incredible, considering that Herbst wasn’t even in the squad! Liberal coatings of Sodium Chloride should seemingly be applied to everything this guy writes!

Western Province have, of course, denied the du Plessis rumours as pure speculation, while my own source, someone quite close to the brothers, has also confirmed that they are certainly not currently in talks with anyone as they are relaxing on their farm ahead of the upcoming Tri-Nations tour.

It is rumoured that the brothers have yet to put pen to paper on extensions to their existing Sharks contracts, but as far as we have been able to ascertain, they don’t appear to be negotiating with anyone else, currently.

  • Rich is usually smoking something nasty before he writes anything.

Unless the brothers told every one else “F*# off, we wants to relax on our farm”, unions will be hunting their signatures like wolves until those extentions on their contracts are signed.

  • Rich is talking crap as usual. It makes no sense for Bismark and Jannie to leave a union that is doing well both on the field and in the boardroom for the mess that is WP at the moment. The exposure those two have got from playing for a winning team exceeds anything they would experience down in the Cape, just ask Luke Watson. You may argue Jannie doesn’t like all the competition for his place at the moment but the truth is there’s no such thing as a starting prop, it’s the squad that counts and Jannie is very much part of the squad. Bismark might have felt aggrieved by the competition from John Smit, but even that’s been sorted out and now he’s premier hooker for both his province and country affording him all the opportunities he could wish for. So why would they jump ship now? Is a little more money worth it? If they’re smart, they’ll stick around.

  • @CapeShark (Comment 4) : You hit the nail on the head there, they have certainly done their careers and reputations the world of good at the Sharks, and unless they have semething really serious to be peeved about, they would be mad to leave. I’m sure the lifestyle suits them and they are well entrenched and both playing at the highest level.

  • In fact, if Rich is to be believed, is there ANYONE WP aren’t courting?

  • Okay so that’s:

    Jaque Fourie
    Wynand Olivier
    Bryan Habana
    Jannie Du Plesis
    Bismark Du Plesis

all in a space of 1 month.

  • @Baldrick (Comment 6) :

I’ll refer back to my previous comments on jounalists writing subjective pieces – Rich is writing to his target market, being CAPE TOWN RUGBY FANS.
It’s not meant to be truthful, in fact it’s not even meant to be read by you. It’s meant to be a bit of rugby banter and it amazes me that supposed intelligent people are still whining about his writing.

  • @VinChainSaw (Comment 8) : Well, WP fans must be pretty damn desperate if they’re willing to swallow the same bs over and over.

  • @VinChainSaw (Comment 8) : Agreed he’s writing for a target market, but surely some senblance of truth should prevail. Is there no honour or integrity? The Independent group surely has a reputation of honest reporting.

Unless of course he’s writing for Die Son, then, like and News of the World (and You), it simply has to be believed!

  • @CapeShark (Comment 7) : They are losing Luke and Jean, they are obviously sh#tting bricks! And Jack leaves after the CC so all they have is nakalavuki – the piano carrying prop cum wing.

  • @willa (Comment 12) : July 28, 2009

At this stage the amendments to Law 3 are for domestic implementation only by respective Unions, but the IRB will monitor the implementation of the amended Law within competitions. The implementation will not apply to international matches.

  • @Baldrick (Comment 10) : Speaking about Die Son, they actually have a very good sports section.Or was that The Voice, oh hell one of the two.Percival
Young of Die Son probably asks the best questions in the press conferences and has much more right than any of the Voldy turds to add ” so and so spoke exclusively to die son “

  • Come now Rob tell the truth!!!

We know there is some tension in the Sharks ranks when it comes to the DuP boeties and not being given what they want!!! đŸ˜ˆ

  • @MornĂ© (Comment 15) : yeah – we do. Discussed it here yesterday. But the WP link seems spurious at best. Looks like the DuP’s will just need to find a way to live with he conditions in Durban.
