Herbst in the clear

Sources within the Sharks camp have confirmed to us that Wiehahn Herbst has not been suspended following a disciplinary hearing in Cape Town today.

John Bishop has subsequently confirmed the story in an article in the Witness.

Herbst was cited following an illegal ruck entry against Griquas on Saturday. The citing was a surprise, given that Herbst was yellow carded for the offence by referee Philip Bosch and it really didn’t look serious enough to warrant further sanction.

Then again, maybe the WP-supporting mafia that runs SA Rugby felt that hauling Herbst down to Cape Town for the day would serve their team’s agenda far better than if he had been allowed to train with his teammates in Durban today.

No prizes for guessing who the Sharks come up against this weekend…

  • The citing commission should bear all costs of these citings when a not-guilty verdict is declared. Surely they study the video evidence beforehand?

And why was the commission in CT and not Durban as is ALWAYS the case? As you say, this smacks of “WP-supporting mafia that runs SA Rugby”.

  • @Baldrick (Comment 1) : call me paranoid, but I reckon they have done their homework on us… only way Province can beat us is if they find a way to further disrupt our front-row.

  • I reckon this once again shows just how ‘deurmekaar’ the whole citing process is.

Why does he have to be present in person? Surely a conference call would serve the same purpose? Or if they want to see the player a videolink would do?
