The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) will advertise this week for the services of a head coach that will be expected to get them on a winning track in the Super14.
Pieter Jordaan reports on Sport 24 that current Lions Currie Cup coach Hans Coetzee may well be among the applicants.
GLRU president Kevin de Klerk expressed the hope that Coetzee would apply.
“Hans applied for the post of Currie Cup coach, knowing that we would be advertising for the position of Super14 coach. We want to complete the process as soon as possible because we have to start our preparations soon,” said De Klerk.
He believes the appointment will be made “within weeks”.
De Klerk added that overseas applicants would be considered.
The consulting work that former Springbok coach Jake White is doing for the Lions in the Currie Cup, will only run until the end of the competition.
“My committees and I will then consider whether we will be utilising his services in future and whether our budget allows it. He has added a lot of value to the team,” said De Klerk.
White would have built up a lot of knowledge about the union and the players.
However, his commitment to his Jake White’s Winning Ways coaching programme makes it unlikely that he will be interested in the Lions job
White has not previously coached a Super14 team.

Interesting…
while they are at it they need to employ someone to keep talent at the union,
would not be surprised to see an overseas coach appointed, good luck to whoever it is, got quite a job on his hands
@war1 (Comment 2) : And maybe a lawyer to check contracts.
Dont be surprised if they name a no-name as coach…
Like Chean Roux…
@Morné (Comment 5) : Whose he 😕
@Me2 aka Mama Shark (Comment 6) :
Maties coach
@Morné (Comment 7) :
Why dont you apply?? 💡
@war1 (Comment 3) :
I actually would be VERY surprised, unless it is a no name coach from Aus or NZ. The fact that they can’t afford Jake means it would be pretty difficult to afford a foreigner IMO
Sounds like Rudy Joubert and Carel du Plessis applied.
