My thoughts about the game we didn’t adapt to the way Dickhead ran the game and the guys battled with the conditions No excuses though tigers better than us. The one thing SA teams don’t do well is adapt to refs rulings and we take to long to do what they do to get away with stuff-lying on the ball side entry etc, also we were not so clever at cheating.

That Said I thought some guys played well.

Earl Rose: Did some nice stuff and was ok in defence set up our try with the corner kick and had some nice runs. Still suspect however under highball when there is completing pressure. But one of his better days at the office. Maybe PDV is right after all Rating 7.5/10

Odwa: 6/10 not much went his way on the night but safe defensively had a few good runs and 2 flashes of brilliance. Also nice hands Might do well at fullback Rating 6/10

Nokwe: has gas to burn and is getting more involved in the game right place right time to score the try and handling is improving. Good pressure at kick-off time Rating 6/10

Juan de Jongh: Not sure what to make of his performance did a few nice things on attack but did not say what the cape papers are saying about him-here I am the new Danie Gerber! He will be happy with his debut though. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and make a call on whether he is ready to make the step up next week Rating 5,5/10
Wynand Olivier: disappointing game from the bok center. He just didn’t stamp his authority on the game Took a bit of a hard tackle in the first few minutes and I wonder if he ever recovered. Not too happy with the captaincy after Chili left the field. Too me he is trying to look like Dickey Muir! Rating 4.5/10

Ruan Pienaar: apart from 3 overkicked touch kicks one missed conversion and one missed penalty one knock back under the high ball and a miscued kick that led to a Tigers try-I thought he had a good game!!!!! Took charge of the back line got the line away nicely a few good breaks Defensively fine and not afraid of the big boys Its when he does that that you can see why people say he has the potential to become the next Lem or Ruan the first. Rating 5,5/10

Heini Adams: Thought he had a fine game not too much wrong with the one called up as a last minute replacement for Fat Boy not so Slim! Got the line away cleared well everything at a frenetic pace with him. But he will learn and will develop into a good back up for FDP Rating 7/10

Backline performance rating 6.5/10

Ashley Johnson: Brilliant with ball in hand good positional sense tackles well. BUT must stop being a show pony and do the graft. His scrumming is poor tends to break away from the scrum too quickly and we get shoved back. He is outstanding when the pack is on top but when like last night we get thumped he vanishes in the tight. Reminds me of a former WP hooker who shall remain nameless.  Rating 5/10

Dewald Potgieter: not one of his better games beaten to the ball on the ground a few knocks and lost the ball a few times. Not a good day at the office for him. In his defense though the whole pack did not have a good day but as the one tipped for Bok test honours and future Bok captaincy he didn’t do himself any favours. Rating 5/10

Davon Raubenheimer: what I feared when I saw the weather came to pass What does a bloke from bone dry Kimberly know about playing in a cold wet and windy swimming pool!!! Worth another shot because he will have learnt a lot from his mistakes Rating 3/10

Jean Dysel: Should have come on earlier This is one tough bugger and will do well in these conditions. We finally started to go forward ball when he arrived Mistakes a good few but he is the real deal. Love his run over the opposition philosophy Rating 6.5/10

Andries Bekker: Great in line out and in the loose but still not convinced about him in the tight. Good on defense Best forward on the night. Would be happier if he picked up an additional 15 kg’s though Rating 7/10

Danie Rossouw: Tried to play the Bakkies enforcer roll Didn’t work. A few Rossouw runs but that’s all. Most notable contribution on the night squaring up to Castrogiovanni and loosing Rating 4/10

Alistair Hargreaves: Replaced Danie after the Castrogiovanni incident

Did some nice stuff but please somebody feed this guy needs to be heavier and could be brilliant at international level Rating 5/10

Jannie du Plessis: disappointing from the big guy expected more. Spent most of the game muttering to himself and to anyone who would listen. He is a good prop but I think playing in a makshift front row didn’t work Rating 3/10

Chiliboy Ralepelle: My fear when he was picked was was he fit enough for this game and was he over the injury Answer No Div must wear this cap. While he was on he was ok Rating 3/10

Bandise Maku: you can see the potential in him but needs regular game time Throwing in was ok general play ok tended to hold off in the loose to his detriment so based on what he did  Rating 4/10

Gürthro Steenkamp: Not his day Killed in the scrums made silly mistakes by trying to overcompensate gave away too many penalties. Defiantly his worst day at the office Rating 2/10

Heinke van der Merwe: Also should have been on earlier Better than Gürthro way better but sill not ready for this kind of game yet Rating 4/10

Others were not on long enough to get rated

Scrum overall rating 2/10. Might seem harsh but they didn’t do what they are supposed to do get quality ball and hold onto it

  • I’d give ashley Johnson a 7. Jannie might get a point from me and Steenkamp minus 5.

  • I mostly agree with the ratings.

I thought Earl Rose and Heini Adams played well in the backs. Adams has the best pass in SA, and Rose has so much talent.

In the forwards we struggled to get over the advantage line. Although Deysel tried hard I didn’t think he made much yardage. We needed more effectiveness, like Johnson provided.

Why didn’t we trust the quality of our backs to break the line in the final stages? That was disappointing.
