Hi there everyone, been some interesting times since my last post and I can assure you not all of them enjoyable. Most notable of all would be the losses! Its amazing how rotten it can make you feel

You sit on your bench after 80 minutes of tough Super 14 action, lose by a small margin and it seriously feels like the world is coming to an end in that moment. It takes a little time, good family and friends to get a little perspective in the hours that follow to realize that the sun will rise tomorrow and life will carry on but its hard for me I must say.

To make it even harder this weekend against the Cheetahs it was my 100th Super cap for the Sharks and it didnt quite go the way I would have liked. I remember too my 50th cap against the Reds which we also lost 5-6 in probably the ugliest game in Super rugby history so you can take it from me as proud as I am to have played all these games, Im delighted they are now over and rest assured I wont be around for 150!!! One thing it confirms for me is that in a team sport when you start talking too much “I” and not enough “we” as is the case with these milestones its always dangerous.

Our loss to the Cheetahs was hard to swallow but we must move on and the Cheetahs are a good side with some special players, I really hope they go on to do even better in this years Super 14. So we have arrived in Christchurch after a pretty good trip staying at Clearwater, the weather is surprisingly amazing and we have already had our 1st training session with new team mate, Andy Goode who looked good and is integrating well with the boys but is already sporting a red sunburn after his first 2 days in the sun!

Tomorrow is our day off after 2 good days of training so the boys are off to see the new release Shutter island which looks pretty hectic. Thursday we head to town for captains run and the game on Friday night where we will get another crack at the Crusaders. Great team over the years and a team we love to get up for so here is to a little rip current pulling the Sharks in the right direction!

This is me signing out, I will get a few more of these off the ground over the next 5 weeks as Twitter wont be as easy this side so stay posted and shout loudly for us on Friday, we need you guys!

  • i remember that reds game. it was the game that sunk the sharks chances that year. brent russell had a shocker, and i had it on good authority that he was out drinking at jonny foxes the night before the game with a few other players. yup smitty is right, individuals can sink a team.

  • @Charmaine (Comment 3) : try time’s ‘allegation’ refers to a game 6 years ago! And I’d take everything he says with a pinch of salt anyway, since he clearly has some mystery personal agenda against virtually every current and former Sharks player 🙂

  • Go Sharks!!!! Well written Captain, we are all proud Sharks supporters no matter whether there is a win or a loss, I personally still wear my Sharks shirt almost on a daily basis during rugby season (I do have a few shirts, so I do not wear the same shirt everyday 😀 )
I will definately be shouting very loud on Friday!!!!

  • @robdylan (Comment 5) : so you say brent russel was a machine that night? mmm. n,o he actually was drinking at jonny foxes the night before and he was shocking at fullback against the reds. and i am not known on this site to spread rumours. you don’t see me putting up articles about de villiers coming to the sharks. my agenda is if you play for a team, be a team player. a team is as strong as its weakest player.

  • @Charmaine (Comment 8) : A white shirt would be better hey? I even have the shirts for winter, and 2 jackets, helps for the currie cup, always seems to be cold when they playing.

  • The dourest game of rugby ever, all that was needed to get into the semi was to nail the Reds who were a sorry team that year, if my memory is still working.

  • @Salmonoid (Comment 15) : well, no – not exactly. We had a dream run of home games after a fantastic tour (came back with 10 points, I think) starting with the Reds. The loss to them sent us into a downward spiral and we didn’t win another game that season. Or wait, maybe we beat the Cats by one point in the last game – something like that.

  • @dawnwallenkamp (Comment 14) : oh got a thick jacket also with a big shark on it use it only in the winter or when we go up to sabi the one i used to wear on the bull win s 14 last year over the b bull shirt got them their but will get me a nice white shirt not so hot 😉

  • Comment 18, posted at 24.02.10 12:13:40 by Charmaine Reply

  • yes and i was only pointing out that ancient history because the article referred to it. and how apt it is that 6 years later the sharks are still battling with similar issues. back then we had a kiwi coach that didn’t seem to inspire a backline. we had players played out of position. we had egos messing with the team ethos and we weren’t getting bonus points. the administration was kak. it would be funny to see what other similarities there are. oh the only positive back then was beer was cheaper. 😆

  • ha ha we also had a war between two scrumhalves. this could actually be an interesting comparison.

  • @try time (Comment 23) : 😆 😆 but you still have to drive somewhere to buy the beer.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a old man. I was commenting on the price of petrol and he said he couldn’t understand why everybody was complaining about the petrol price cause he still puts in R50 every time he goes to the petrol station 😆
